I've about worn out a set of Toyo ATIII's over the past 4 years. They're a great tire, if you change your mind for any reason. They've held up to an absolute ton of sidewall abuse, kept traction in a lot of messy stuff, and are still a really nice on road tire. Personally, I think they're a great fit for the sport.

But with that said, Falkens are a great tire too and there are a lot of very good choices out there now, especially for this category.

I just got the Falken A/T4w’s put on today. Coming from the stock Continental CrossContacts I could feel the extra weight when accelerating. It’s not to the point of feeling overly laggy but I could feel the difference. I didn’t do a ton of driving so curious how it’ll feel on the highway tomorrow.

I have 245/65/17 Falken Rubitrek AT tires on my Badlands with 45k miles on them, I know they will make it to 50k miles possibly more as they are supposed to be a 55k tread life tire.
Rubitrek's cost less and weigh less than the AT/4W and I think are closer to what the AT/W3 was.
If I had a full size truck or Jeep I'd choose the AT/4W for heavy duty use.

The ONLY acceptable answer is the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss. They perform just as well if not better than others mentioned, but they look 1000x better.

Honest question: do they even make those in a size that fits the sport? I have them on my "big" bronco and love them. They're not made in 235/65/r17, though it looks like they might be available in 245/65/r17

Fair enough. I'm a bit hesitant to run 245/65 without a lift. They are good tires, though! Heavy as all get out, but the tread pattern and sidewall strength are really hard to beat. They're also quiet on the highway. But damn, 38lbs for a tire is a lot for the sport. That's almost 1.5x the stock tire's weight. (The 35's on the big bronco are a 70+ lb tire, though, so 38 lbs sounds light in comparison!)

I was not aware of that Model. I will consider that one for my badlands as a ATW3 replacement.

I was at discount tire and the guys there were not impressed with the AT/4W due to the complaints they’re Recommending the Wildpeak AT Trail as the better replacement.

im very happy with the AT3 …. shame they are discontinued but there might still be some new ones in stock Somewhere. if I see some I’ll be buying them. If not I’ll look to Rubitrek or Trail.
i still think the AT4W is a great looking tire

That’s interesting, I’ve seen good reviews on the FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T4W in the 235/65R17 size and also asked my tire installer… I’m happy with these tires but they are heavier than I wanted

2024-06-11 $1,036.54
Mileage: 25,462
FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T4W
Item number 28841790
Tire size 235/65R17

what complaints have you heard?

It was not emphasized as a viable direct replacement. It’s heavier, more aggressive and more expensive. Aside from wet/snow performance and speed ratings… it’s a superior tire developed to compete with K02. complaints were stiff ride and road noise …. which to me aren’t really complaints that just comes with the territory.

So our '21 Badlands needs new tires ordered now. OEM is the Falken WildPeak AT3/W 235/65-17. It's due for new tires soon anyway, but found a chunk of sharp metal on the highway that resulted in a non-repairable flat and now driving with the notorious mismatched spare.

I was already shopping anyway, but would like to get something ordered here today. The AT3/W on there seem to be good, but I'd like something similar in terms of overall ability and hopefully a bit better for winter conditions and maybe better longevity. Getting right at 50K miles out of the AT3/W and they're definitely past the point of ideal replacement. It seems most of the ones I'm considering are now heavier than the AT3/W, which is unfortunate. 3peak sowflake rating and all that -- lots of Colorado mountain driving here.

Current top 5 I'm considering, in no particular order, all 235/65-17:

OEM Falken Wildpeak AT3/W
Falken Wildpeak AT4/W
Yokohama Geolander G015 AT
Toyo OpenCountry A/T iii
Nokian Outpost NAT

Thoughts...?

It seems some others have recently posted about choosing one or the other of these. If any of you have them and have had them long enough to see winter or mountain conditions vs. the stock AT3/W, I'd love to know.
I went with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss on Alp wheels offered through Tire Rack. Outstanding tire no matter what the condition. Also, as close to a mud tire you can get without it actually being a mud tire which is important for the places I go camping. The best tire I have ever had in the snow as well.

I was at discount tire and the guys there were not impressed with the AT/4W due to the complaints they’re Recommending the Wildpeak AT Trail as the better replacement.
For the Falken AT Trail tires, both the dealership service department and Discount recommended those if we didnt want a full AT tire. Theyre like an all-season tire that’s beefed up a bit for light trail or dirt roads. May not be a bad tire, but looking at them, they just weren’t that appealing. I might consider if we didn't do the mountain driving or need more aggressive tires at times. Neither the dealer service center nor Discount Tire said anything about complaints on the AT4W's. Most reviews I can dig up are positive and they seem to be quite popular amongst the Toyota Tacoma/4Runner crowd who previously really liked the AT3W.

So we now have the AT4Ws installed for a few days. They ride nice. Cant tell the extra weight so far or when accelerating. They really just look and feel like the AT3Ws and ride like them too. I guess we’ll see how it goes.

im still second guessing the choice here somewhat. But initial impression of the AT4Ws has been good.

Our daughter has a Bronco Sport as well and she's paying attention to what we find with these as she will be due for tires soon. I'm also going to need new tires on my Lightning and I might just jump early if I find a deal. The General Graber A/S tires that came on it are just OK and they're about shot at only 35K miles. I like how they ride and overall performance for a 3-season time, they just don't hold up. For winter it's bad out, especially if there's ice, I cable up. Really looking at the Toyo AT III EV for the truck. Anyway, didn't mean to ramble...

Commend you on lasting a whole year longer than my '21 Badlands. just about to hit 30K miles, had to replace last year. City and snow driver — up to Quebec and back this winter on snow, mud and gravel — and love the stock Pirelli Scorpions. I priced out the Continental CrossContact LX25 but spent the extra to keep stock. those were $120 less installed.
Have to laugh at my mechanic's notes a few months ago during state inspection were for less AT tires as we're the city. laughed because the entire hood has been torn up for new gas and sewer lines all summer. only just started repaving. also, I'm a snowbug and need them
