I'm using the "C" port on my '21 for the media. I got a "C" because 1) I wanted the standard port for charging cords and 2) I mistakenly assumed the "C" would be better transfer rate. I have the media stick constantly in the car's USB port and sometimes it can take up to 5 minutes for it to index the whole drive and be ready for use. Maybe you need to give the system more time to index the drive- how much media are you trying to load? Maybe try just a few songs to make it go and then expand?

OP, have you tried that same USB port with your phone? I would assume if it works with a phone it'll work with a USB drive.

@Glamdring70 , do you need to index every time your start your BS? Now I'm thinking of getting a USB drive for a beach drive. I don't get cellular service and my iPhone is out of storage.

I don't know exactly how much it does that. It's often the case that if media is playing when the car turns off, it cannot resume on restart because the device isn't ready in time. That's annoying enough that USB is my least used source. Frustratingly, the car doesn't support playlists in the traditional sense. I can tell it to play an artist but not a custom list so random play is what I use and I have a lot of songs loaded on there- basically our entire CD collection.

Sorry I did not reply sooner, I have found success. I have 5 flash drives with music on them so I tried them all. Only one worked and the difference is 4 were used on a Mac computer while the one that worked was from a Windows computer. The Mac formatted flash drives played in all my Escapes but the Bronco dont want to play well with them.
Thanks for all your advice!
