Leaking water pump on your Bronco Sport with the 1.5L Engine?
And are you out of warranty so are looking at potentially a high cost to have the repairs done at a Ford Dealership?
Since you are out of warranty it is advisable to contact the following to negotiate a lower repair cost:
(1) your service department,
(2) your regional service manager (you can get the name of that person from your dealership service department),
(3) Ford Customer Service.
Contacting all 3 and asking for either full compensation for the repairs or at least 50:50 cost sharing might work in your favor.
At least one owner posted the above advice led to a negotiated 50:50 split in cost (but remember Ford itself doesn’t pay full price like your price is so it’s not really a 50:50 split in that case)
And contact trusted repair shops in your area (non-Ford Dealerships) to see if their repair cost is lower than the negotiated price you work out with Ford
If you are handy you may be able to replace the water pump yourself for a much lower cost
A water pump leak likely is not a Safety issue… therefore filing a complaint with NHTSA typically would not be a reasonable next step but nothing prevents you from filing that complaint (from the NHTSA Website: “Have you experienced a vehicle, tire, car seat, or equipment safety problem that could be a safety defect? If so, you can file a complaint that we will carefully review — like we do with every safety problem submitted to NHTSA.
What is a safety-related defect? Generally, a safety defect is a problem that poses a risk to motor vehicle safety, An example of a safety-related defect is a steering component that breaks, causing a driver to lose control. However, an air conditioner that does not work properly isn't considered a safety-related defect, because it does not pose a risk to motor vehicle safety.”)
