I've got a 2024 Bronco Sport. When I started it this morning the radiator coolant overheat light came on instantly, and was idling rough. I put it in gear, and it was worse.
I shut it off and restarted and done the same thing. Any ideas? Or anyone have the same issue?

Was this a cold start? It sounds like a sensor issue. The vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM) includes an operating mode called "limp mode." Limp mode limits power output to protect the engine under specific circumstances, such as overheating. It depends on sensors to "know" when circumstances exist requiring limp mode. If your coolant sensor is telling the PCM the engine is overheating it is likely placing the engine in limp mode.

Yes it was a cold start. It had sat all night. I almost used my remote start this morning and didn't.
Thank you!

Not to piggy back your post but I’ve been curious how remote start works in the event of an error code. Like if I remote start from inside and come out 5 min later would it stay on through out or would the remote start not even work to protect the engine?

I'm glad I didn't use it because then I wouldn't have known whether it was actually overheating or just a censor.

To your point, though, if I would've used it and it overheated and continue to run, it probably wouldn't have been a good deal.

Hi there! If you run into this concern again, feel free to send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info. I can look into your concerns on my end!
