Looking to add an awning to my BB but am wondering if the install is pretty much permanent or can you take on and off easily and only used when needed. My BB is my daily driver but does get used for adventures on the weekends. Would like to be able to to just attach the awning when going on camping trips and not have to deal with the noise and reduction in mileage by leaving permanently attached. Any thoughts? Just added my crossbars this weekend.

I think you'll find that attachment schemes will be different for different brands. Do some Googling; find the installation docs for the awnings you're interested in and study them. You should be able to tell the level of difficulty in installing/removing from those.

I didn't want to put a rack on and while searching found mine at yescomusa.com. It was inexpensive, shipped fast and works. I haven't seen any others brands in person but would rate this one decent. I've had no problems with it the couple times its been on and used.

I have a Yakima SlimShady 6.5. It takes me maybe 5 mins to put it on/take it off the crossbars. Setting up the awning takes 5-10 mins depending on the available anchor points (trees/stakes/whatever)

I have the Cascade Vehicle Tent (CVT) tradition awning much like dakman’s . I think most of these are very similar. I mount mine on the Thule aero crossbar T slot. The L shape bracket looks the same as dakman’s. The difference is one side L shape how it mount to the vehicle.

At first I remove the awning by sliding the bolt out of the T slot. But it is not easy to slide in and out so I now leave the bolts in the T slots and just release the nut holding down the L shape bracket to remove the awning. Takes about 5-10 mins but better with 2 people.

If you ever think you use the awning often to leave it on the car, I’d recommend to splurge to those swing out type with at least 270 degree coverage awning since it is much easier to deploy. It just cost three times more

Been researching this one, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. seems like one of the easiest to deploy. Kammok Awning
I was looking at this one as well…it is not a 270 degree maybe easier for a car like BS to open the rear hatch. But the price is like a 270 degree awning.

Just like the review says, an awning may be deserving of a permanent installation. It can be used all the time assuming you take your car to all different kinds of outdoor space/activities. I would probably leave mine on if it is that easy to deploy. The typical one with poles can be troublesome which result in less usage.
