My wife has had her 2021 BS OB since September. And I have opened the hood several times but just noticed today that the drivers door must be open....... I wonder why they did that?

I notice that the other day too. The closed door prevents hood release lever from being pulled.

My 2015 Transit Connect was like this and it had the extra blow open latch out front.

Thank you for bringing this up. I've been wondering why they did the double pull on hood release.
Seemed to me it would be easy to release hood while underway. Guess it would be a bit of a challenge to hold door open and pull hood latch x2 while on the interstate.
Thank again ( & I too am going to try this afternoon :) )

Secondary latches on car hoods have existed for at least the last 40 years. The double-pull release mechanism is relatively new, but every car I've ever owned save for one has required releasing two separate latches to open the hood.

Hopefully you re NOT going to try to open the door and pull the latch hood x2 while on the interstate!!! :cwl: That could get ugly.

Just in driveway, I’m old, but not that old.

Back in the early 1970's I had an MGB. Driving one day at about 30 MPH the hood flew open. I had the top down and reached up to stop it from crashing into the top of the windshield. It was damaged, but would still close. It's not something I would like to repeat.

Ha! I too had that happen to me, 67 falcon doing 75mph (wide open with a 170 six and 3 on the tree) hood blew up and wrapped over on the roof. Didn’t break the windshield but folded the hood quite well?

It's because there is no safety latch under the hood like older cars had. By requiring the door to be opened, you won't accidentally pull the hood latch while moving.
One would think that is common sense.......................but alas
