Which tires do you have?
on the bronco? I just put the cooper discoverer road and trail AT's on. so far I am totally impressed with them, I wanted to go with one that I didn't have to buy a second set of rims and swap every year like I did on my car. I did take a bit of a hit on fuel milage with them though, but I am still getting better than the sticker said I should so thats a win.

on the fusion I have had 4 different types of pure winter tire, some preformed better than others but they were all top rated winter tires. um what were they all, blizzacks a couple others and sailun ice blazer which is actually a really good winter tire.

People did get around before the 1980's using mainly 2WD, there weren't that many FWD or AWD vehicles available at the time like there are today and 4WD was typically relegated primarily to pickup trucks and Jeeps yet people still went about there business.
While FWD, AWD and 4WD can make driving in snow easier you can still get by with 2WD when properly equipped, sometimes that meant putting sand bags in the trunk or in the bed of a pickup to help with traction.
yup I know I was one of them. grew up driving my 77 Camaro with bald radial ta's on it in the winter and got around. But don't confuse that because we did it, that it was better because it just wasn't. we used to drive slower, start stopping a lot sooner, and spin the tires like a mother to get going.. with AWD, traction control and ABS brakes that's all a thing of the past.

I did get around here with my 2wd truck with 400lbs of cement blocks in it, but it wasn't always easy. there is an interface about 10 miles from town where the cold mountain air hits the warmer valley air and makes instant ice most of the winter, that makes for some fun driving. then it is a colder blend the closer I get to work with more snow. fwd made it a bit easier but 4wd it was like driving in the summer, so I used to take my truck any time the weather was looking bad. when I decided to retire the fusion I wanted a more fuel efficient vehicle with AWD, LED lights and a small laundry list of options like heated seats, steering wheel and so on to replace it. I didn't want to keep putting that many extra miles on my diesel or spend the extra money to drive it to work. hence the bronco sport, fit the wish list like a glove including room for my hockey gear. and now that I have a good set of triple peak snowflake tires on it that are preforming amazingly it is a enjoyable drive int he winter again.

have you ever seen the show "highway to hell" filmed in BC Canada on the Coquihalla highway. that's what I travel 60 miles worth every day to get to work.
