Hey yall; thanks for having me. My 21 badlands is at 74k miles and I’ve already had to get warranty work done for the RDU. I’m currently wanting to do oil changes on the differentials but I cannot for the life of me get a straight answer from ANYWHERE telling me if there is an alternative to the ford 75w motorcraft stuff (reeeeally trying to avoid ordering it in the mail)? I checked user manual, ChatGPT, google, YouTube, and I’ve searched thru here but I can’t figure out exactly what specific brand/ version of brand to use. TIA! Sorry if I’m spazzing 😭😭

Oohk gotcha; yeah I was hoping there was a good alternative lol. I’ll be sure to just go with the motor craft stuff (once I can get some). Thanks yall!

RDU uses Motorcraft XY75WQL disconnect rear drive unit fluid.
PTU uses Motorcraft XY75W85QL synthetic hypoid gear lubricant.

Use can use other manufacturer's lubricants as long as they meet Fords specs/requirements.

I have a 2023 Outer Banks and I took it to the dealer. It has 67,000 miles on and they changed the rear differential oil and added an additive to it which is supposed to take care of any issue dealing with the chattering and I also put a performance chip in and that took care of the chattering at the 1500 RPM.

If you are an Amzoil person they have Ford spec lubricants for the PTU and transmission but not the RDU. Amzoil also offers engine oils and filters.

Redline also has lubricant for the PTU.

As of yet I have not seen a cross reference for Motorcraft 75W disconnect fluid for the RDU.

The rear differential manufacturer's website claims that they have developed a unique oil and that only with it will the unit function properly:
Spicer® AdvanTEK® Ultra™ High-Efficiency Axles

Axles are traditionally designed to durability specifications, which is typically enabled by utilizing thick, heavy gear oils that can sap fuel economy. Dana engineers reversed the design process for the Spicer AdvanTEK Ultra axle by first defining the specifications for an ideal ultra-low viscosity lubricant, and then designing compatible gears and bearings that take full advantage of the lubricant.

Engineered for passenger cars and vans, crossovers, and SUVs, the Spicer AdvanTEK Ultra axle delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency across all torques, speeds, and temperatures without sacrificing durability or noise, vibration, and harshness performance. It leverages ultra-low viscosity lubricants while maintaining gear life to achieve up to a 45 percent reduction in energy loss compared with a typical axle.

Ford also has not assigned any standard to this oil that third-party manufacturers could use as a reference:

I would be worried about the clutch like on my motorcycle, as long as the oil is compatible with clutches
