Hi again,

If you ordered a BS, did the dealer make you pay for dealer options, too? In my eyes, dealer options shouldn’t be an expectation for an ordered car that’s designated for you. I get that dealers have to make profit, but tacking on $2,000 in “windshield protection” or other warranties that get covered by your insurance anyways seem unnecessary. Haven’t ordered a car before though so not sure what the norm is.

Looking to order a BS Outer Banks from a dealer near me. They said they’re a “preferred” Ford dealer and get orders in 8-10 weeks, which is faster than the 6 months another dealer told me. When I talked to them about ordering, I asked about dealer options because I really don’t want or need any of them, but they said they equip them on all vehicles. Whatever I build is what I need.

Thanks!

$2,000 on Windshield Protection..... Sounds like a Dealer Markup disguised as Market Adjustment. I would say, "I don't want that protection or I'll order somewhere else". No dealer will force their options on me unless I request it.

no, it's your build, FORD doesn't require any add-ons. If the dealer is pimping you...that's a bad sign. As to 8-10 weeks...bullsh**. Nobody has that kind of leverage to bypass every other dealer in the US. I'm in the Detroit region, about as good as it gets...nobody could produce one even close to that. I'd consider looking at another dealer.

You only pay for what you specifically ordered. Period. If dealer installed options show up, that means the dealer is trying to rake you over the coals with unnecessary mark-ups. Telling them that you will walk away and purchase from a different dealership usually gets them to back down. They don't like to hear it, but they also know they are manipulating the customer. Saying they can get a vehicle in 8-10 wks vs. 6 months is hogwash. Bronco Sport base, Big Bend and Outerbanks have a shorter manufacturing time than Badlands.
The more you know, the less they can manipulate you! Good luck.

My dealer typed up a long list of stuff he said I “needed” like locking lug nuts, rubber floor mats, $800 ceramic coating, etc. I told him no to all of it. They had already applied the ceramic coating, so I got that for free. Said no to the extended warranty too.

Here’s a lineup of added dealer options another dealer tried to sell me:

GPS Theft Protection: $1,899
Windshield Protection: $1,299
Tire and Wheel: $899
Paint and Interior Protection: $499
Paintless Dent Repair: $499

The sticker was about $38,000. The final total came out to be $46,000. They ended up offering only $1000 in add-ons plus a trade in, but I didn’t end up taking it and probably should’ve left as soon as I saw that first invoice.

If you don't mind my asking, whereabouts in Texas are you looking?

Also, the only acceptable list of dealer options is nothing. They can say whatever they want but no one is forcing them to put the options on. I would bet that if you said ok to all that, once it comes in they will hit you with another 3-5k in "Market adjustment".

Wow.... That is insane amount of dealer options on a customer order. This is like ordering a computer monitor, but they send you a whole PC along with it and expect you to pay it when you just needed the monitor.

I would be on the phone with Ford directly and report them if they said it was required to have those options on my order. Granted, probably wouldn't do much other then maybe put the dealer on notice if it went far enough.

I’m sorry, I should have been more clear— thirds options were for an existing piece of inventory, which is why I’m pivoting back to ordering but want to make sure I’m not roped into random dealer add-ons. However, one dealership told me that that add $2,200 on all vehicles, even if they’re orders.

None of the Ford dealers in my area have ever tried to add on options or additional fees, or lied to me about pricing. They have followed through on any promises as well.

Is that not how most Ford dealers operate?

Ahhhh gotcha. Ya, if its a dealer order. I don't think they are obligated to follow ford pricing other then base MSRP. However, I would be VERY critical in them explaining to me in detail what each option is and what it covers. Otherwise its just expensive words on paper that don't really mean much.

They are supposed to, but not all dealers are created equal I suppose.
