They both lack stock ground clearance. Both have better creature comforts. Both have the same bland design of today. I like the boxy difference. All have an old school transmission. Which is why Subaru was out for me. Besides who doesn't want the hot new different vehicle? Just some basic thoughts from my research. These vehicles is what I shopped it against because that's what I saw as the competition. I did start at a Kia Sorento Then an Outback. Transmission pushed me away from those.

I have test drove a CX50 2.5 Turbo. I think it is a nice car. Compared to a BS BL would be:

1. road handling is way better. it is a stiff ride. typical Mazda zoom zoom sporty feel.
2. the same sporty handling on the road may not contribute to the off road handling. I don't know. never taken it off the pavement while test driving.
3. power feels about the same as the BS BL
4. interior room is....well, longer but shorter. Shorter means lower roof line provided lower head clearance inside the cabin.
5. interior I think fit and finishes are better than BS BL but not by much.

Never driven or seen a Passport Trailsport. The dealers didn't have much stock early this year. I don't know about now. For someone want/need more room, that is a good option I think. It is bigger than both BS or the CX50. So for interior cubic inches, it looks like a good value.

Wait another year, maybe a '24 Santa Fe?

Honda Passport sort of like Explorer type size much bigger then a Sport. The Passport Trailsport is like a trim and wheels package no skid plates yet. But looks like the new Pilot Trailsport is getting the skid plates so maybe Passport gets them the following year? Honda is sort of working on this whole off road thing so expect more to come.

The Pilot and Passport 4WDs ALL have rear diffs that can clutch lock just like the Badlands. All of the 4WD have it regardless of trim level. My wife had an '09 Pilot 4WD and with the locking rear diff it was an absolute beast in the snow. So that Pilot Passport 4WD system is outstanding. 3.5 V6 not too shabby either.

Bill thats why I stuck with the BL. The are a little bigger , but add the lift kit just to equall a BL and then skid plates again just to equall a BL they are getting expensive. Now old school me would rather have the N/A V6 than a turbo I4 and it almost swayed me. Now that others are entering production waiting for a 01/02/2023 build date is driving me nuts. I applaud the patience you had in getting yours. Especially when almost my exact build is at a dealership 2 hours away. I just cant bring myself to pay the $2500 premium.

I think Passport good choice if you need more room and are ok with lower gas mileage. I am seeing crazy high prices wide spread across the board they all went up a lot last two years.

I was originally shopping for a 2021 Passport. It was a weird driving experience. Largest vehicle I would've ever owned. Truck feeling inside but it didn't feel that way. It just felt boring all around. And I had been wanting one since they relaunched.

I might have considered a CR-V but my mom has one and I don't think I could do that. Maybe later.
