I think it's done because of all the dumb parents who have killed thier kids by leaving them in hot cars ?
I’ll just give up and take it as a reminder to call my kids who have both gone off to college. ?

It's tied to the back door opening, not the seat. I put my computer in the back on the floor, still get the child reminder with nothing on the seat. Honestly I love this feature cause Im always forgetting I put something back there
That’s interesting! I do almost always put my briefcase in back. Usually on the floor but sometimes on the seat. I’ll pay attention and see if the automatic re-enabling is triggered by opening the back door. Thanks.

I can’t find other posts on this so pardon me if it’s already discussed somewhere else. I have turned off the rear occupant alert 4-5 times and it won’t stay disabled. Anyone else have the same issue?
Update:

This hasn’t been resolved and I’d just resigned myself

to living with the nag to check the back seat. Now it’s a permanent notice that can’t be dismissed. Guess it’s time to take her in for a check-up.

I've shut it down the first day and haven't seen the alert since. Had the car for a week only. I'm assuming the seat belts are off, Is the car detecting a seat belt on at the back? Sounds really frustrating, sorry about it.

I think every one of those parents is guilty too! I don’t believe any of those incidents are accidents!
I agree! Never leave a young child in a car unattended, regardless the length of time. I know the alert is a pain to normal people and people without young children, but I think it's great how Ford is including so many advanced safety features in their cars today. Now there is no excuse for these type of "accidents".

I would agree they are all guilty of negligence, but I don't think they are all trying to kill their babies on purpose. This local case involved parents--one of whom is a pediatrician--who had changed their work routines and simply got confused about who was supposed to take the baby to daycare.

Tragic accidents do happen.

We’re gonna have to agree to disagree. Right at the beginning of the article it says the mom waived at the baby before getting out wtf? What did the husband think she was waving at?

…and regardless, if the parent thought he/she left the baby at a daycare - don’t you check on your child every hour or so, especially at 7 months old?! This is a sad story.

Yes, and if you keep reading Mom told the police she didn't think her husband had seen her waving at the baby in the back seat. They also had a five-year-old at the time whom Mom had taken to school. She had the baby with her. Mom was supposed to drop the baby at daycare, but says she forgot.

Again, I'm not saying there was no negligence, but the main reason these people weren't prosecuted is because there is no evidence of intent. The way I see it, the prosecutor who made that decision had a lot more information than I got from reading a few articles in the paper.
