Plastic wheel liners in 80s mustangs will never wear. Unless accident tears them up they last life of vehicle. A lot of non-OEM manufacturers sell plastic wheel liners for a lot of vehicles as cheap replacements. So we might see plastic wheel liners become available on sites like rockauto.com at some point
Can imagine those also created for a little more wheel/tire clearance?!
Replace factory oem & No trim required.

Process to clean/ maintain wheel wells...okay good to know

Never have needed to tho.

Going to guess / bet there will be a aftermarket resolution.
Maybe it will be just people spraying over them with bed liner material might do a lot
I will likely remove the wheels to clean in there come spring and bed liner mine.

was just thinking about driving back from off-roading the couple hundred miles on the freeway to get home with dirt and Pebbles falling out of those under the tires shooting at cars behind me on the freeway...

I'm totally making that up have no idea if that's going to happen like I said earlier in the thread this is a wait-and-see for me

Ahhh ohhh...
So mud and crud Gets behind the fuzzy material?!
Yeah. That's my peeve, is the crud gets behind it and becomes either locked into the rear quarters or flung up into the engine and fender. I have been cleaning off the inside top of my front wheel well regularly from leaves, sand, dirt, bugs that somehow fly in. I can't imagine how bad the back wheel quarters are since I would have to take lights or panels off to get in.

First pic here, I popped the hood and I am facing the vehicle from the front. I put my drop light down on the tire, you can see how much of a gap there is where the light shines up. Second picture look at the body panel has a line of crud that seeped in through the gap. You can also see a bunch of sand grains on the bodywork from the last time I drove on the beach all around the cable and on support frames. That white padding on the backside of the wheel well- it captures a bunch of leaves and bugs that fly in or fall/drain down from the windshield trim above. Considering how poorly I think the interior of the body and frame is painted, I think this is just a recipe for corrosion.

No thanks.

LOL pretty silly to have to come up with solutions for something that's never been a problem on other vehicles.
Not a deal breaker.
It's a wait-and-see for me on if need solution.

I've noticed on our Badlands that mud, rocks, and sand make their way past the wheel well and are filling up the molding around both front wheels near the rear. I got a handful of small rocks out from that area the other day, and the trim no longer seems to fit as well as when new. I'm definitely worried about corrosion under the stock wheel well trim.

It also takes forever to spray out the liners if they have mud on them. I could clean my whole taco or jeep in same time it takes to do 4 wheel wells on the BL. It just cakes up and doesn’t want to come off. It doesn’t really run down the sides It chips and goes somewhere else you need to spray again. Especially the pockets in the rear, mud basically turns to concrete. Is odd decision.
Get rubber floors and carpeted wheel wells??

Funny...my daughter's 2003 beetle had the same exact material lining the wheels...worked just fine for nearly 20 years. Nope she did not off-road like a bronco, but...I'd wager 80% give or take of bronco owners don't either...
I get it, but that's what a hose is for, power washer, etc. The wheel liners do what they are supposed to do.

The splash guards beneath the vehicle are about the same. When I pulled mine to install side steps, there was a small amount of debris that had accumulated after only six weeks of ownership and very light driving. I wonder what will accumulate after a year.
After lots of driving, a winter, and many many km of gravel, mine were starting to pull away and sag. The dealer cleaned them out and put them back in, but they sag. The guards themselves are in good shape, but they seem to have lost some integrity.

I'm going to coat mine with bedliner. The concept of soft liners like these is lost on me.
