Very thorough, thank you!My go-to wax has been McGuire's Hybrid Ceramic spray. It's easy to apply and has the bonus of wiping/chamoising the car as you go, so it feels like cheating a step. I have other more thorough and involved products, but this is what I typically use post-wash.
I was getting a bit low so when I was at a local store, I thought of this thread and grabbed a bottle to compare. I knew when I was holding it, something was different but I still got it for research purposes. Here is a side by side. Notice right away that they cheaped out on the printing, doing away with the holographic label. This is the sign something has happened because the first thing companies do is cheap out on the packaging to save money. No, it doesn't affect the actual product except to let John Q. Public know the bean counters got involved.
The other main change is removing the techie/important sounding "contains advanced siO2 tech!" tagline. Probably the chemical tech that actually makes it work well. Another interesting change is the First Aid precautions. They are stronger and more severe on the new bottle. Is the new formulation somehow more toxic to people but better for air quality?
The main difference is the ingredients list. The wax no longer contains "Stoddard Solvent". If you look for information on that, you find it is similar to kerosene, which aptly describes the smell of the wax. I would assume a stinky kerosene like substance would get hit by VOC regs. So as I said upthread, they didn't blatantly announce it's reformulated but the clues are there.
The new bottle is also $17.99 which has to be $5 more than the previous. I don't know if I will evaluate this myself. I might return it and look for some old stock still sitting around because it's carried by a lot of stores. One bottle goes a long way so I only need so much in this lifetime before the VOCs get me.
