I bought a new F-150 in 1999. In 2003 I was in the market for a Ranger FX4. I took the truck to CarMax to see if they would pay more than the dealer was offering. CarMax showed me convincing evidence of the passenger side front fender being replaced. They said based on my denial of a wreck, plus no police report of a wreck, the repair was done before I bought the truck. So, yeah, it happens. While you hate to hear it, it's pretty common across all vehicles and brands - it's just most of them go directly into the bodyshop and get fixed up before you ever see them.
