Our BS is somewhere between Lexington, KY and Columbia, SC, ultimately to be delivered to a small town dealer in NC. We called the dealer last week to get the railcar number, so our salesperson looked up that info while on the phone. He read the details of the railroad schedule, but then said, "Your vehicle is marked "bodyshop", which usually means there could be some damage in transit. He was really vague about it.

I grit my teeth everytime I think about this, as we have waited for this car since October 28, 2021. Now, we have no idea what to expect. We need to make sure one of us is at the dealer as the car gets unloaded to see it and take photos, I guess.

Anyone ever have this occur to your new vehicle? Also, is there any way to track a truck delivery once the car is loaded and on the road? The target auto depot where the car will leave the rail is called Dixiana in Columbia, SC.

Does that mean it goes straight to the dealer’s body shop or somewhere else?

I would be worried about that.

While you hate to hear it, it's pretty common across all vehicles and brands - it's just most of them go directly into the bodyshop and get fixed up before you ever see them.

That’s fine as long as the body shop does an excellent job and the repairs look factory.

I imagine it would - honestly it could be something as small as a ding from loading that you'd never know about once they pop it out and touch it up.

That may be true. I don't think the salesperson was supposed to to us that tidbit of info.

Make sure you have them pop it on a lift and inspect underneath and of course take it for a test drive even if it's your own vehicle.

couple things come to mind
will the carfax report damaged/repaired?
how would this affect trade-in value as previously damaged?
I'd not sign off on the deal if value depreciates

I had a 2000 Zxr built in Hermosillo that arrived with a slightly different shade of red front fender. I didn’t notice when I picked it up at night. When I took it back, the dealer knew nothing about as well. Upon further investigation by the dealer, it was damaged coming off the train. Was fixed in a body shop there specifically to fix these issues. Turns out it wasn’t an anomaly. My dealer fixed it for me. No questions.

I had a 2000 zxr damaged coming off the train. Maybe too early for a carfax but it never showed up as an issue.

I wouldn't stress out yet, they still have to disclose the damage before you take delivery. Yeah it could be something huge but it could be as simple as a cracked parking lense. That's why he was vague, he really doesn't know till the repair order shows up with the BS. Generally railcar damage is fixed before it goes to the dealer.

You assume it would show as damage on a report. If it's in dealer hands and hasn't been delivered it's off radar. It likely would never show on any report. Some dealers are even sketchier than that and sell used cars with all sorts of hidden gems.

carfax probably will not occur
vehicle probably owned by Ford until dealer takes control
work done pre-owner
I would not expect a repair report but would certainly want one
fingers crossed just a blemish

I would just look over good, test drive, look on roof, look underneath, if it drives nice and looks good then sign the papers.
