The other day, I noticed a mismatch between the GPS Nav on my phone (Waze) and the digital speed displayed on my BS BB's instrument cluster.
I am used to vehicles being a little off, my ex-Toyota Highlander always reported that I was going 3-5% faster than I actually was.
Unique to the BS though was that the vehicle was reporting me going 2 MPH SLOWER than my actual speed, anywhere above 40 MPH.
I'll mention here that I have stock wheels and tires, and they are still at the factory setting of the recommended 33 PSI.
The vehicle indicating a slower sped than I am actually traveling is a situation ripe for an over-exuberant peace officer.
Has anyone else noticed a discrepancy between their speedometer speed and their actual speed? It seems like this is something that the dealership could calibrate.

They can’t recalibrate anymore. Ford took that away from them. Mine reads slow because I upped my tires, but still within the envelope of acceptable for here (they generally excuse up to 11 over). But I just ran the calculations and deal with it.

I would go check it out at the dealer none the less if you are concerned. But remember, phone GPS is…. Well…. “GPS”. It isn’t that accurate and is “assisted” by what towers can see you.

it’s why it may go to pot when you have no service.

In Illinois it is easy to check our speed because every construction site tells you. And you cannot drive long without hitting one. Mine is accurate each time, whether in the city at lower speeds or on the interstate and higher speeds.

Yep. That's the other thirds of the equation. Civilian GPS is limited in accuracy, and phones use tower location more than GPS anyway. There's a lot of calculation going on based on kind of fuzzy inputs. It's amazing they get it as close as they do actually.
