I put my 2021 Sport into Brake Maintenance Mode before starting the rear pad replacement. Everything went fine - but now I can't get it out of Brake Maintenance Mode. Any suggestions on what to check? I am going to pull the rear tires off again today to look around - make sure the parking brakes are still plugged in & such. But seriously, it was one of the simplest brake jobs I've ever done...

BTW, It drives fine while in Brake Maintenance Mode - other than it gives an audible warning every time I stop to remind you that its still in Brake Maintenance Mode...

On some Fords there is an extra step to deactivate the brake service mode.
See if it works for you

Activate:
1. Turn key on SIMULTANEOUSLY press gas pedal down and push the parking brake switch in to release - keep holding
2. While holding above turn key off and then back on and keep holding approximately 5 seconds A message will appear saying vehicle is in park brake maintenance mode
3, Turn key off and go do your brake job When done and everything is back together.

Deactivate:
1. Turn Key on SIMULTANEOUSLY press gas pedal down and pull up on the parking brake switch
2. While still holding (this is the extra step) press brake Firmly for 1 second then release
3. Keep holding gas pedal and pulling park brake switch to apply
4. Turn key off and then back on and approximately 5 seconds later you have release park brake maintenance mode.
5. Or skip all this and just use a scan tool

Ha, I just ordered a scan tool - should be here tomorrow.

Note that I do have a scan tool, but it is in storage halfway across the country. Really didn't think I'd need a scan tool for a simple brake job...

Oh and by the way: Thanks for the tip on the extra step. But I'd already tried that too...

Something else to consider: I recall seeing something about fully compressing the rear caliper pistons before reinstalling them. Did you do that?

Fully compressing the calipers? Is there any way to install new pads and new rotors without fully compressing the calipers? If the calipers were not fully compressed I'd never get the new pads on - IDK, maybe I'm missing something here.

Anyway, new scan tool arrived. 45 minutes to update the software on it. Plugged it in, went to the EPB function and did the auto scan to recognize my vehicle. Once I confirmed the auto scan info was correct (Year, Model, VIN, ect) it gave the message, 'EPB Function Not Supported'. So then I try to manually enter my vehicle and the Bronco is not even an option.

Ugh, off to the dealer tomorrow to resolve this...

Yeah, I didn't get it either when I read it. Seems like a no-brainer, but since it was specifically mentioned I figured there might be something going on with a sensor that must be tripped before the system could be reset. To be clear, this is an assumption on my part--I do not know this for a fact.

I meant that it took 45 minutes to update the software on the new Scan Tool that I bought.

UPDATE: I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. They called about 90 minutes later and said it was done. When I picked it up I asked what they did - Service Advisor just said they turned off the Brake Maintenance Mode using the scan tool. That was it. I asked why it wouldn't turn off with the procedure I was following and she just said that the procedure is different on some generation of Broncos. WTF...

Anyway, she only charged me a half hour labor ($82 bucks) instead of the minimum diagnostic fee of a full hour. But still, WTF!

Ok, quick update here. I need to change the REAR caliper slide pins and bushings for the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 22-2326, it is posted elsewhere on this site). I'm thinking that as long as I'm pulling the calipers off I might as well replace the pads while I'm there (lifetime warranty on the pads, so its free replacements). But I don't want to go through that Brake Maintenance Mode bullsh*t again. Does anyone know what happens if I replace the pads without putting it into Brake Maintenance Mode...?

If the electronic park brake applies itself at the wrong time you could be in trouble.

I believe you want the latest TSB 23-2308 which appears to use some different parts.

TSB 23-2041 and TSB 22-2326 are obsolete.

TSB 23-2308
Moan Noise In The Rear Brakes When Vehicle Is Driven In Reverse (R) In Cold Weather And/Or High Humidity, Supersedes 23-2041

(obsolete) TSB 23-2041
Moan Noise In The Rear Brakes When Vehicle Is Driven In Reverse (R) On Cold Weather And/Or High Humidity, Supersedes 22-2326

TSB 22-2326
Brakes: Updated caliper mounting hardware Brake reverse noise: Replace rear caliper bushings using a thicker slide pin bushing.

remove and replace rear bushings in rear brake calibers per TSB 22-2326

Interesting. I am about to do my Bronco Sport and I hope I don't run into the problem. I don't believe Forscan has the EPB service mode option yet but will update and see. Did you just compress the pistons back into the caliper or do they need to be turned back in?
