Bronco sport
Well when I first bought the sport last April I figured I would hold onto it until the big bronco was attainable. I’ve been hanging out over on bronco6g.com and all the issues are starting to make me have serious doubts about trading in the sport. From brakes failing, the 2.7blowing up, hard top issues twice and now soft top issues, airbag recall etc, etc. The sport definitely isn’t a rock crawler or anything like that but it’s a very very good vehicle so far, nothing besides small little issues like a slight interior vibration.
Good MPG, nice looking car, can handle the small trails and things I will actually use it for, and has all the tech options I need. A similarly equipped big bronco was a little over $42k when I built it online.

Any one else kind of losing interest in the big bronco because the sport has been so great?

I like big Bronco I am a fan. Not that I want one but I think they are cool. I lurk over on bronco6g forum a lot and looks like lot of quality issues to me. I think Ford will get quality issues ironed out but will take a bit more time to get there.

The Sport, especially the Badlands trim, will become more popular over time from word-of-mouth about its real-world capabilities, especially AWD handling in rain and snow. Outside of communities like this, the general vibe I got about the Sport in early 2021 was muted/skeptical: "baby Bronco," "made in Mexico," "lol three banger," "another small SUV in a crowded market." Really nothing else like it at these prices that also looks cool.

Even if you don't buy Consumer Reports's methodology, the recent survey about Bronco Sport reliability I think reflects a changing sentiment.

Big Bronco cool but its a heavy full frame heavy duty off roader. So it not gonna be light and nimble like a sport and its not going to match the 2.0 sports acceleration either. Gas mileage quite a bit lower too. Best to wait till '23 or so when nutty demand for big Bronco cools some. But I dont think its for me I just a big Bronco admirer.

If Ford could get more Badlands on dealer lots so ppl could test drive I like a lot of ppl would be impressed.

I drove a 2door outer banks it was very nice to the point I went after it to buy but when the GM said 10 over cost I said I am not a over buyer guy . Point is it drives exactly the same as our badlands does . If you get a opportunity take a spin on a two door . By the way did you see what those cuda s were selling at auction the other day . Very sharp classic.

I’m probably similar. But my interest in the big bronco didn’t go so far as to want to put in an order. Size, cost, fuel mileage, none of these met my needs for a daily use vehicle. I’m far enough north to where the top/doors would come off not nearly often enough. Love the big broncos on the road, and I may own one someday when my needs & wants might be different. But for the foreseeable future, the next decade or so, the Sport is just about a perfect blend of what I need & want.

Their overall marketing strategy is not unlike Jeep now. Some choose a Cherokee as a better vehicle to meet daily use needs than a Wrangler. I’m hearing more positive press now too on the other Ford brand extending vehicle, the Mach-E. The sentiment I’m seeing seems to have shifted from ‘not a real mustang’ to ‘finally somebody other than Tesla created a desirable electric car’. I honestly think Ford’s strategy of creating a Bronco brand with multiple vehicles to meet different niche needs beyond what they can do with more car like utilities such as the Escape, I think that strategy will be proven right.

I agree with this. The Sport and Big Bronco aren't the same car, but Ford is trying to create an image. It makes more sense to create a new model and call it the BroncoSport than call it like an Escape XL.

Bronco conveys an outdoorsiness and lifestyle vehicle and while the Sport and Big Bronco are nothing alike, the moniker insinuates they can both meet that lifestyle requirement just in different ways at different price points.

For me, I would swap my Bronco Sport in a heartbeat. Not because I do not like it because I do, but my needs/interests have changed. I have no interest in a big bronco either but would dearly love a dual cab Ranger.

Yes, and this branding matters, it creates desirability & resulting sales. I never thought of calling it the Escape XL, but yes it’s not hard to see how such a vehicle wouldn’t convey the idea they’re going for with the Sport. Now where am I going to go in mine when it gets here? I’ll put on my NorthFace puffer jacket, pull out the LL Bean leash for the dog, and we’ll ride in it to the gravel parking lot at the dog park & know that we’re good for hopping a curb if needed at the local market on the way home to stop & grab supper. Nothing wrong in that, no harm no foul, that’s how most big broncos will get used. At least those here in the city that aren’t being built into hardcore off-roaders by forum participants. Honestly it’s really not much different now than what everybody else is doing trying to hop on the trend with RAV4 TRD editions & Subaru Forester Wilderness editions. Ford did it right though I think with giving the vehicle far more abilities than most will need to use.

I see nothing wrong with admitting your needs & interests have changed, it happens. I’m no different, my needs & interests changed leading me into a Sport, or an order for one. I’m looking at this current market as the best opportunity to make a change that there can be. Even if I was a little gun shy to pull the trigger on a Sport at first only because I made a mistake on my last purchase.

Gotta watch out for the occasional speed bump in the resdential neighborhood, the lift on the Badlands really comes into its on on those.

And I agree, the Badlands with the electronic locking diffs are more than anyone needs really unless they're intentionally pushing it...which I will be this spring but thats why I got the BS Badlands versus any other car at this price point. Like many people, I'm buying it to do what I want to do that 1% of a time versus buying a car that maybe can do that 99% better but I'll be scared of taking on trails and feel limited in what I can do on my vacations.
