Well luckily every model has all-wheel drive and the blind spot alerts in the side mirrors. Having had a few versions of this platform, I would really recommend getting a badlands just a base model if needed. The only thing you're missing out on with the premium package is the leather and the heated seats during well which is easily able to do without. No one needs a wireless car charger and I've had friends use mine that it didn't even work on some phones. And even though you don't get the remote unlock, you can still use Ford my pass for that. I'm not sure if you get the One touch handles where you can just grab the handle to unlock it or not I really like those but they're easy to do without. And with the power seat it doesn't even let you do tilting the front rear so that's not that great of an option. I would really recommend thinking about getting just a base badlands. The 2.0 is a good motor. It's very powerful. It's proven and yes you do get a lot of cool four-wheel drives stuff but just for the motor I would recommend getting a badlands and up base is more than enough and you still get power everything just about. I just really don't like that three cylinder motor. If you could get a 2.0 on the other trims I would say do that but I would recommend getting the badlands just so you don't get that 1.5.

Checking back in here. While these didn't quite work out, I will be picking up a used '22 OBX on Tuesday. Baby needs heated seats.
Can you update us? What you like about your choice? Any regrets?

Well, here is the update! I LOVE MY BRONCO SPORT. I've driven about 1000 miles since I bought it and have gotten used to the shimmy of the hood, and driving something is considerably more bulky than my little 2005 Honda Civic. I have managed to park it in our tiny garage, which was a huge worry because we get snow here. We have old stone walls lining the driveway that are leaning in to the edges of the driveway. The back up guides, the beeping etc are very very helpful.

I just returned from a 6 hour road trip to see my 92 year old FIL. I traveled through the Adirondacks and then West on I-90 across upstate NY to just outside of Rochester. I had my dog belted in the back seat with a special dog harness, because her bed fit in the back seat but not her crate.

I drove through the Adirondack Mountains and through Adorondack Park. Three cylinders, and not a hitch. Plenty of power for driving up and down those hills for sure. On the interstate, I had to catch myself because she would do 80+ if I wasn't careful. Passing trucks was a breeze. The curves through the State roads in the Adirondacks... I was impressed. I thought I'd get tossed around as my little dude made the turns but this was minimal. I was pleasantly surprised with the ability of the Sport to take the curves --and often at a speed greater than the suggested one posted. Oops. It was just so dang pleasant. No strange engine hang ups or sounds. She had a bit of trouble finding a good gear once, when I was on Stare Road 8 behind a lumbering truck going very slowly. I think any vehicle would have been challenged in that scenario.

MPG as on the dial was 28 point something or other. I left with a full tank of gas and arrived with about 1/3 left. Plenty in the tank to drive my FIL around to Dr. appointments and an errand or two.

Getting in and out was easy for my FIL who does need help with a cane and is rather bent over these days posture wise.

As a humors aside, my FIL lives in a retirement community in an independent cottage. There is a nice dining room in a main building with cute apartments, etc. The residents loved the Sport and commented on it a lot. He quite enjoyed getting out in front of his friends, and would report their comments to me.

I can't speak to the sound system, which apparently is the upgraded one in this Sport. I am one of the weird people who don't listen to anything while I drive, or do so only on occasion. Around town, I've oddly taken to listening to classical music. It does sound very good to my ears. I just hate DJ's yapping and trying to be amusing.

I have not yet hooked up my phone, because I am the laziest human on earth. I keep meaning to buy another Apple cord, but then I forget and... well, there it goes.

I used the onboard NAV to get there and back even though I know the way. I just put in the mid-way town where I stop for a break (Speculator) and then my FIL's town. The amusing thing about the NAV, that I really did like, was when, on the return trip, it directed me on a route I didn't want to take. When I took the exit off of I-90 that I wanted, the mapping immediately switched to my new route. No annoying, "Proceed to the route," message. Just blip to the new route and drive on airborne.

The Sport has a 2 hour "please stop to rest" type message that bongs up on the screen in red. When you press OK, it seems to pop up every 15 minutes or so, with a darker red. I thought it was kind of cute. It was like it was getting all annoyed that I wasn't listening. Kind of reminded me of my Dad.

The seats (leather) were super comfy, as opposed to our Subaru Forester which has a passenger seat designed, as I like to say, by Lucifer. And the heated seats... Oh my! The heat from the back of the seat goes pretty much up to my shoulder blades.

The wireless charging does not do a dang thing to charge the phone. It is ridiculous.

So there it is. I am one happy driver. All my concerns have been answered about driving, parking and gas milage. The 3 cylinder has surprised me with it's efficiency and pick up. Longevity of a 3 cylinder... who knows. I did drive, and almost bought the 4 cylinder, similarly equipped with niceties, but the engine felt like it was more than I needed for around town. If I did more off roading than the unpaved farm roads or the occasional forest trail, I would have gone for it as that power would be helpful if I got stuck during mud season.

So grateful for this forum and all that I learned from it. You all are the best!

Forgot to mention --if you can believe it after the novel I wrote above--

I drove out West to Rochester in rain, all the way. The car performed very well in those conditions, I never did use the slippery mode, although I did once during a previous interstate drive in the rain. I am going to get better windshield wiper blades, but the ones the OBX came with are fine.

After years of standing in rain and snow to open my car door with a key I am loving the auto unlock and touch thing on the handle. This came in handy to get my FIL into the car quickly without me having to unlock his door and appear to help him. I also like the auto windows, as does Buzz, my dog. Others have had these things for years, but it's a treat for me for sure.

I believe that feature may be disabled in the settings. That is if it gets to be too annoying.

You should be able to find the driver assist info in your owners manual if you received one.
I added an excerpt from the manual in case you didn't.

The system monitors your driving behavior using various inputs including the front camera sensor.
If the system detects reduced driving alertness below a certain threshold, the system alerts you using a tone and a message in the information display.
Using Driver Alert
Switching the system on and off
You may switch the system on or off through the information display by selecting Settings, Driver Assist and then Driver Alert in the menu. When activated, the system monitors your alertness level based upon your driving behavior in relation to the lane markings, and other factors.
System Warnings
Note: The system does not issue warnings below approximately 40 mph (64 km/h).
The warning system uses two stages. At first the system issues a temporary warning that you need to take a rest. This message only appears for a short time. If the system detects further reduction in driving alertness, another warning could be issued which remains in the information display for a longer time. Press OK on the steering wheel control to clear the warning. When active the system runs in the background and only issues a warning if required.
Resetting the System
You can reset the system by either:
  • Switching the ignition off and on.
  • Stopping the vehicle and then opening and closing the driver door.

I couldn't agree more. I've been on 2 fairly long trips (1000 + miles), and I love my OBX. The 1.5 has plenty of power and better gas mileage.

Thank you for posting this. I do have the manual, and keep meaning to read it. I tried to program the universal garage door opener and failed. I do need to dig into it.

Hmm perhaps the car thought I wasn't alert enough in the Adorondaks? Those curvy roads sometimes beget a bit of crossing into the center (when my sightline is clear!) Perhaps that helped trigger it? our Forester base gives a message every 2 hours. The BS as a steaming cup of something in the graphic... warning by Starbucks?

again-- thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
