I hunt and camp out of mine. I just got back from a 1000 mile road trip to lake Powell with an average of 31.5 mpg (not checked with a calculator). Overall average is closer to 28 mpg. The roof box in my avatar drops the mileage to around 24 mpg. My 4'x7' trailer with a cap on it drops it...
My Badlands has taken me everywhere I've wanted to go. On desert roads with steep banked arroyos a good approach and departure angle makes all the difference. I have ripped the carpet off the bottom driver's side twice, so I ordered the metal skid plates. Last week, it was on a rutted 3" & 4"...
The dealer is the last place I'd go to have a battery or alternator checked. Any auto shop will check both for free, and quickly.
My 1995 F-250's Ford battery lasted 10 years. I kept a solar charger on the dash to keep the battery fully charged.
I'm just spitballing here, but the first thing I'd do is make sure the battery is fully charged. Lower voltage increases the heat and resistance in the motor. That in itself shouldn't make a noise, but it may have damaged the motor.
I know I've burned out several cheap air compressors by...
We live in an entitlement society. Everyone thinks they deserve whateve they want. They don't. I watched the unions in AZ put the copper mine out of business.
My BHEF battery (not AGM) has been good for 16,000 miles and 18 months so far. I use Auto Stop Start all of the time. When it quits working (mostly in the winter) from short trips with the lights on, I know I have to put in on the charger. Letting your battery run down shortens its life...
On a different vehicle with a dead battery, we were able to start and drive the vehicle a couple of miles by jumping it with a 20 AH jumpstart battery. It wasn't quite enough to get it to the shop, so we had to install a different battery to get it there.
I lived in Tucson for 2 years with a car that didn't have A/C. Once I got a car with A/C, I felt like such a fool for putting up with it for so long. Tucson is cool compared to Phoenix. Modern cars are so complicated that it isn't unusual to have an issue they can't figure out.
Might be...
Optima brand batteries are very good. I have one form 2012 I use for my tent lights and my boat.
Our BS's have way too much electrical draws all the time. In the winter, my Auto/Stop/Start would quit working every two weeks or so because I was making short drives with my lights on. A few...
A light vehicle with wide tires may "float over mud", but it may also slide you off the road. A narrower tire will cut through the surface mud and find the hard surface below. Assuming there is a hard surface below. Wider tires are ride softer on rock. In sand and mud, letting some air out...
The stock size for the upgraded wheels is 235/65R17. I've been very happy with mine in off road mud, snow and rocks. 15,000 miles on them and they still look new. Haven't had enough snow here to test them on the road.
I bought mine from Melloy Ford in Los Lunas, NM. They had one on order so they modified it for me and I only had to wait a couple of months. No issues so far.
I took my 6.0 Superduty to Power Ford here in Albuquerque, and they were the recommended "Bullet Proof Diesel Installer" for this...
My wife uses a trunk storage organizer. It folds up when you don't need it, and keeps things from rolling around.
I thought the CMS was a good idea, but I'm disappointed in it. It is too low to fit my totes, so I never use it. The lips on the sides that hold it just take up cargo space.
