Becoming more of a turnoff. Wet timing belt (at least in the dragon), Hermosillo-built, no manual tranny, giant arcade screen on the dash. I was hoping for an improved version of my 2006 Escape. I'm beginning to believe the original Escape's success and appeal was bolstered with Mazda's heavy...
Same here on Redline in the Mazda manual. I bet you even noticed better shifting too. I don't believe in snake oils, but each time I switched over to Redline in manuals, it was noticeable.
As for the timing belt. I don't like them dry, and I certainly wouldn't want one wet. Funny you...
This thread is reminding me why I bought eight new Fords in my late twenties through my early forties, and not one since.
It still fascinates me in how their products changed in ways that lost appeal to me.
I drove 4 hours to the Atlanta International Auto Show several years back to get my first peek at the Renegade. Mainly, because I needed to replace my old Escape as it approached a quarter million miles. I ended up not purchasing the Renegade, as it was smaller and cheaper-looking than...
Same here. Why make a so-called "exciting vehicle" and take away one of the great pleasures of driving engagement.
I suppose everyone would rather be checking their Facebook likes on the giant center screen than actually driving.
Motorpsychology, you are correct. I am old enough to remember being able to order "a la carte" options on domestic vehicles.
Even weird mismatched color options could be special ordered.
I would love to get a mid-level trim package, with high-end audio and a manual. Thus far, I've had to...
I would have guaranteed one sold unit had it had a manual tranny, Hoping for it to be a niche vehicle and not lost in crowd of similars.
Driving a manual is part of the fun, regardless of raw performance numbers. Not everyone is stuck in urban congestion.
I am not proficient enough in Photoshop anymore, plus I don't have a photo of my old Escape at the proper angle.
If someone can do anything with this, have at it:
I'm with you on the STUPID giant video screens on the dash. Marketing folks think that since phones got bigger, everyone wants (insists) on having a gaudy flat panel on their dash. Major turnoff for me, and many others I know.
I think it looks great, it appears to check some my boxes, especially if it has independently opening rear glass.
I know it will never happen, but a manual tranny would seal the deal, especially in mid to upper trim. Oh well.
As for the rugged part, most comments focus on the offroad prowess, I think about utility too.
Things that would have appealed to me, a real rear "bumper ledge" even if not a real bumper, to set stuff on. This sounds trivial, but when I'm hooking up a dirtbike/boat trailer or other trailer...
Agree 100% on the "tablet on the dash". I have no idea who is driving this marketing, but it kills the aftermarket audio option.
And no, today's OEM offerings are nowhere near the sound quality one can get from even a midrange aftermarket solution.
In dash double-DIN would be my preference. I...
There is a reason why Tacoma still offers a decently-loaded TRD with a manual. Some still prefer the experience, despite market trends.
I know we likely won't see a manual Bronco (even full-sized), but don't think that there's not many of us that still buy on that factor. I bought (and own) my...
I certainly would. One of the reasons I moved away from Ford was they dropped the manual (I've owned a manual Ranger, Explorer, F-150, and Escape). I replaced the Escape with two manual vehicles, a 2016 CX-5 and a 2018 Colorado. I would like to have one vehicle to consolidate to. At least...
