  1. California Selling Bronco Sport full metal front bumper, wheels and more

Tempting, but I shouldn’t do any big discretionary purchases right now. I’m sure this does kill the 360+ radar, but I bet a plastic or fiberglass panel in front of the sensor wouldn’t be hard to add. If it let you keep the stock tow hooks, or had recovery points bolted in the same spot, I’d...
  2. SeaSucker Mounts

Haven’t used the sea sucker racks. I have moved a lot of 1/2” plate glass and rigged cameras and lights to cars with similar suction cups. Everything has to be pretty clean, and redundancy is key. All the Seasucker products I’ve seen use multiple cups.
  3. Distribution Recovery Link

Yeah, using a bridle with fixed length legs helps when you need to maintain alignment. Using a sliding bridle does a better job of distributing loads when things aren’t aligned perfectly. A tow strap run from one hook, through the pull line, to the other hook will self adjust to a large degree...
  4. Distribution Recovery Link

Someone with recovery experience can correct me if I’m wrong, but seems overkill to me. I haven’t done any vehicle recovery, but I rig a lot of things to winches and chain hoists. I think a simple tow strap bridled to the winch line or kinetic recovery rope is fine. I think rigging plates like...
  5. Your Bronco Sport has been put into Deep Sleep mode

Oh, maybe I just wasn’t hearing them from back there. I know it doesn’t turn on the bronco rock animation on the screen. Not finding as good of a deal now on panels, mine was $80. Lensunsolar 50W for $129 is the best deal I can find from Jeff https://a.co/d/1idrjCh Same company has a 65w made...
  6. Your Bronco Sport has been put into Deep Sleep mode

Yeah, I think they run just to clear condensation, in case you start driving. Hatch glass doesn’t seem to turn them on, not sure about whole hatch or back doors My solar setup is just a cheap 50w semi-flexible panel on a hood vinyl...
  7. Your Bronco Sport has been put into Deep Sleep mode

Another factor, how long are your usual drives? I’ve killed batteries on several cars with short commutes and errands. I put a hood solar panel on for that, and to offset all the vampire loads from computers, headlight cooling fans, etc. while camping. More things to drain the battery while...
  8. Anyone checked / discovered gasoline smell on their oil dipstick?

I think the naturally aspirated Honda engine took at least twice as long to hit operating temperature as the Ford turbo on a cool (mid 50s) morning. I think that’s part of why the BS doesn’t have as big of an issue.
  9. Anyone checked / discovered gasoline smell on their oil dipstick?

Mine smells a little when my commutes are short. I had a 2017 CRV that had major dilution. The computer was still giving me about 8k between oil changes. When my drives were 10 miles or less, the fill level went up the dipstick about 3/8” past the full line. A few percent will smell, double...
  10. New Custom Overland Roof Rack for the BS

    They’re back in production, $875 https://yuccamfg.com/collections/all-products/products/2021-ford-bronco-sport-roof-rack?variant=42061929414824
  11. 12V outlet for a cooler on long trips?

Compressor powered fridges tend to have decent insulation. Better than a cheap cooler, not as good as the best passive coolers, as you have the coolant line providing a path for heat conduction. Thermoelectric coolers do far worse when turned off. They just have a thin peltier chip and heats...
  12. Thoughts on running more then recommended tongue weight with modifications

Weight on a hitch rack isn’t quite the same as trailer tongue weight. Less dynamic, but there can be more leverage than a trailer hitch. You’ll have sketchy handling way before you break anything. How tight to the bumper the rack is will matter almost as much as how much weight there is.
  13. Oil Level Increasing

Does the oil smell strongly of gasoline, milky from coolant? If not, I’d double check you’re getting a consistent measurement. My 2017 CRV had a lot of fuel dilution, at a similar amount of change on the dipstick, the oil reeked of fuel.
  14. Any full length under body armour?

It’s a boron alloy steel. Very strong, very hard rocker panel. Every wrecked BS I’ve seen pictures of it didn’t budge.
  15. Mods required to turn the Sport BL into a respectable offroader?

It's not a rock crawler, but the BL can definitely wheel. I'm at stock height, on 235-65-16" BFG K02s. Clearance has only been a slight issue where there are deep ruts from lifted vehicles that are also a similar width. Improved approach would be nice with bigger tires or lift though. I'd echo...
  16. Badlands vs. Heritage Limited for oversand (ground clearance? water fording?)

I just mentioned not airing down to proper sand pressures as it speaks to how well the awd works. I’m usually driving a combination of sandy washes and rocky dirt, and have been able to stay at 20-25psi without struggling at all. Would definitely go lower for pure sand. And I should clarify...
  17. Badlands vs. Heritage Limited for oversand (ground clearance? water fording?)

I’ve driven a fair amount soft desert sand in mine (not Utah level soft and fine, but finer than most California beaches). Never had to air down lower than dirt road pressures. I haven’t climbed any large and steep dunes though. Have heard the pseudo-lockers on the differential or PTU will give...
  18. Strength of the frame pinch weld

Yeah, I’d like to get mine tucked a little higher, but not really sure if it’s worth how much cutting and welding I’d have to do on the bracket. Will probably just add clamps for now. pretty happy with the profile of the Go Rhinos otherwise though. Step plate is kinda vestigial, can barely get a...
  19. Strength of the frame pinch weld

They seem to be a very strong boron alloy steel. Pic is an extrication test, where they ripped the roof off with a jack against the rocker that didn’t budge. https://www.boronextrication.com/2021/05/30/2021-ford-bronco-sport-body-structure/ Having trouble finding some other pics I’ve seen of...
  20. Very Touchy Gas Pedal -Badlands

+1 on the eco mode. It’s still got more throttle response than our Hyundai ioniq does in its sport mode, but makes it much easier to drive reasonably. Do find the light pedal less fatiguing on long drives though, and have occasional use for most of those 250 horses on short passing zones in the...
