Yeah I would bet the ones I bought are coming from the exact same factory as the DZG ones, just with a different sticker on the box. Best bet is there was something messed up with the internal amber wire, some voltage somewhere, etc. that just killed it before I could ever wire it up. If I was...
It's funny, because I regularly set my cruise control at 75-80 on the highway when it's clear and have never once felt like I was struggling in my OBX to get up to speed or stay at speed.
OK so once I figured out the driver's light was bum, I replaced it entirely, making sure to test each connection prior to pushing in, after connecting everything, after pushing in, after wrapping up - it worked each time, hazards/blinkers on amber and everything else on white. Ended up tapping...
Just tried this - the initial light I had installed on the driver's side won't blink amber at all, but the second light I ordered DOES when I just hook up these wires. Makes me think the amber lights on it are bad after all.
@Wabarca2 ok so - yellow wire connected to driver blue/green, red wire run down to lower light blue, black attached to bolt on fender.
still no luck - same as before, amber never turns on, but white does (including hazards and turn signals). starting to pull my hair out on this one.
while I'm here - the instructions say to run the black wire to a bolt on the fender, which I currently have done on both sides - does that affect anything vs splicing the black wire into the headlight black wire?
tried a second set of lights I had ordered to see if it was the light vs wiring, but same thing happens - white turns on and blinks, amber never turns on.
wondering out loud, but maybe that white light voltage is overpowering the amber light voltage so it's always telling the white light to be...
just tried this as a quick fix - running into the same funkiness as before, the white lights light up fine, but the amber never turns on (even with turn signal or hazards). The white lights blink on those latter two, but it never kicks over to the amber.
were the rivets a pain to pull out and push back in? Any concern about damaging them?
thinking I can take a crack at this tomorrow morning on the driver side to see if I can get it working.
Realizing that @Wabarca2 ran the red wires to the courtesy side markers, not to the headlights - that’s probably where my issue lies. No idea if there’s a headlight wire that stays on with the DRLs, worried I’m gonna have to run those red lights down behind the wheel wells.
Well got them installed - and of course, the left driver's one doesn’t blink amber, but instead the white lights blink (daytime running works fine). Thinking there’s a wiring issue somewhere inside the light itself and that’s why it’s doing that.
Either way, attaching some photos of the install...
OK to verify connections (since the instructions that come with them are vague):
Driver
- Black: ground
- Red: blue
- Yellow: blue & green
Passenger
- Black: ground
- Red: blue
- Yellow: purple
So you basically just run the wires down the inside of body panel/engine to the front where the headlight wires are? Doesn't seem too bad - how hard is it to remove the existing little black plastic to replace it?
I really like these and was thinking of putting them on, but hadn't installed anything like this before - where is the wire cluster you're pointing to in those pics? About how long did it take you to install them? Any special tools / wire connectors I would need?
