Maybe not ideal...some have removed the rear bench seat very easily and it does level out the flooring. As for that gap...perhaps just spin the other way with feet at the front seats and head at the rear hatch?

Personal choices. The OEM look good, fit good, and seem to be ideal.

Honestly it's one of the reasons I'm happy I added the rubber mats from Bronco. They are perfectly fit and add a lot of rubber under foot. They look good too. Solves that concern in my opinion. Plus when they fill up with dirt it's easier to get rid of it.
