I think it depends on your goals. If your goal is offroading for its own sake, there are better vehicles to choose. If you just want to get to more remote places to camp or engage in outdoor pursuits, I think it’s a great choice. I can get most place a stock 4x4 can, and it’s more enjoyable to...
Ah thanks for the photos, wonder if there was a design change since they made the instructions. I think I could get them clamping that pinch weld with minimal modifications. They really just have to take the point loads and scrapes, the rocker panel is plenty strong.
I’d get a decent pistol box and attach it with a chain or u-bolts to an under seat frame or other piece of accessible steel.
The console vaults are very cheesy for the price, but not really any worse than a locking glove box, which are mostly plastic.
Most cable locks can be defeated pretty...
yeah, it would be supported the whole length as far as a side on impact though. (turning or sliding into a trail side rock). Could probably add a couple clamps mid span. I like the idea of losing less than an inch of clearance, and no drill installation.
Fabricating whole sliders would be a bit...
This shot has it clamped, blue is bottom of the rocker pinch-weld, red is top of the bracket and presumably roughly the top of the slider. Weird angle, but the bolts seem to be right up against the pinch-weld
I don’t think think the real pros are going after our low yield secondary cat when there are hybrids, larger vehicles, and just accessible primary cats that are a bigger jackpot. I think the JCR skid adds enough time to make the average tweaker move on to an easier target. Anyone determined...
Interesting, at first glance at the mounting kit instructions,(https://www.gorhino.com/pdf/1590757) they seem like just side steps with only two bolts into the belly. But do they clamp all along the length of the pinch weld? Seems like that would give them a lot of lateral strength, but still...
I like this! Been a little worried about scraping and medium worried about theft. Our secondary cat isn’t the best target for the real pros, but easy enough for the amateur to chop. The pros are mostly going after hybrid (longer lived more expensive cat) and bigger displacement (bigger cat)...
Just know that all this bolts into is foam and plastic. The rear seat bottom cushion is just clipped in, the lockbox will come out with it. I got one of the knockoffs and added some bolts to catch steel parts
It’s an issue in adding cost to the windshield. Heating elements for defrosting in front of the cameras. Marginally more labor. Most newer cars are north of 700 bucks for a windshield replacement.
Another vote for skid plates and rock sliders. Something like the 4wp stuff that never went into production.
There are several nudge bars available, but none of them add recovery points to lower trims, or let you keep the badlands tow hooks. Other features I think could differentiate from...
It’s a cheap semi-flexible one from Amazon
Topsolar Flexible Solar Panel 50W https://a.co/d/iPK25s2 unfortunately out of stock in black.
Best option I could find that would fit. VHB taped to a Rocky Mountain graphics vinyl and edges caulked. Hooked up to a cheap, easily mounted Battery...
It was kinda the whole thing till I raised the stops near the front corners. Then mostly the aft edge. Now I don’t notice it any more with the Solar panel being a big rubbery damper. I’d look again at highway speed, but it’ll be a while till I’m not in traffic or on back roads.
