Nothing. The only factor I really got into was weight, which is well known. The OEM Falkens are only 31 lbs at 235/65/17. The 225/65/17 non-OEMs, s smaller tire, actually weigh more at 34 lbs. There is only one reason why the smaller tire weighs more than the larger tire - it is constructed...
This is 100% true (as is just about everything Mark S says). However to elaborate further, typically the OEM tire for that brand is uniquely different from the other sizes of that same branded tire. Take the Falken Wildpeak AT3W mentioned above. The OEM size of 235/65/17 is much lighter and less...
Considerably less aggressive. That being said, the Trail Terrain is a good tire and it was designed for this subset of unibody small SUVs. The KO2s are primarily intended for trucks and Jeeps. Lots of folks run them on this forum with satisfaction and they do look killer. But as stated, they...
I don't think its click bait, nor do I think it is totally accurate. The marketplace is undergoing an evolution to EVs, but it needs to evolve there organically, not based upon some mandate or artificial line. Simply put, the tech exists for EVs, but it is too expensive for the average consumer...
Mine was built on 2/27; shipped on 3/3; arrived at the dealer in Granger, IA on 3/15. That was only 16 days from built to arrived. Now, it took another couple of weeks for me to get to Iowa to get it and drive it back. That was so much fun. Can't wait to do it again.
You are right. I did build and price, and it just defaults to black. Stupid. I am not sure why Ford is so insistent on limiting choice. That should be the selling point of the special order model they want to develop. Right now, you have that choice - on a Big Bend. You can get body color or...
Check out TireSize.com. They typically have pretty well every tire's specs on that site. For instance, this is what they have on the Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT:
At 245/65/17, it is only 32 lbs.
Actually for 2024, they have gone back to a standard black roof for BL and OB, with a option for body color - no more $500 fee for this option. I think that must have gone over like a ton of bricks on the 2023 Job 2 Sports.
Yeah, there is no silver bullet. More aggressive the tread, the heavier the tire. Heavier the tire, the crappier the MPG. Just physics and she is a cruel mistress to us.
I do think if you want 245/65/17, the Toyo Open Country ATIII is the closest compromise. Plenty of folks have run those on...
Ford can confuse on this issue though, I give you the example of the F-150 "Limited", which has been produced for 10 straight years. In that case, "Limited" just means expensive. I think their marketing team felt that the "F-150 Expensive" trim wouldn't sell as good though.
Autotrader still has 315 HLEs available for sale nationwide, lowest one at $42,420 in Peak Blue. If you live near Manassas, VA, go grab one - they ain't making anymore:
I think the Free Wheelin Edition is just pretty sharp marketing. I doubt many of these will be ordered, but they will end up at dealerships as interest models and hopefully it keeps the Sport talked about as a "fresh" vehicle. However, I doubt Ford really created this to sell a lot of FW models...
On the 2024, the black roof is back as standard on BL and OB. I don't see that there is a CG roof option anymore, but body color appears to be an option. What is a real game changer is the BB can get a BAP which has a black roof, so you can option a black roof on a BB now.
Can't speak for Mark S, but I got my 235/65/17 AT3W from Discount Tire and they are the same as the OEM tires direct from Ford. I keep seeing commentary that there are non-OEM 235/65/17 AT3Ws, but I have never seen any evidence of this. I think Mark S is correct when he stated that Falken just...
You are reading it correctly. As has been discussed, the 235/65/17 AT3W is a bit different than the rest of the AT3W as Ford wanted it for an OEM tire, so Falken accomodated Ford by making some concessions regarding weight. Unfortunately, the lost weight is in the sidebiters and tread lugs...
Oh and I certainly would mod away on mine if I had one. I am just pointing out that I think that the HLE does have some potential for future value (I agree it won't be a 1970 GTO.) And on the issue of "Limited production" over "discontinued", I would point out that the F-150 Limited has been...
