My BHEF battery (not AGM) has been good for 16,000 miles and 18 months so far. I use Auto Stop Start all of the time. When it quits working (mostly in the winter) from short trips with the lights on, I know I have to put in on the charger. Letting your battery run down shortens its life...
  2. Smoke from engine compartment

So carry a charged booster battery in your vehicle at all times. Wow! I liked the old hand or foot brake better.
  3. Smoke from engine compartment

So, is there a way to release the emergency brake if your battery is dead?
  4. 2023 emergency neutral procedure ??

On a different vehicle with a dead battery, we were able to start and drive the vehicle a couple of miles by jumping it with a 20 AH jumpstart battery. It wasn't quite enough to get it to the shop, so we had to install a different battery to get it there.
  5. Intermittent AC - at the dealer for a few weeks (after compressor replacement)

I lived in Tucson for 2 years with a car that didn't have A/C. Once I got a car with A/C, I felt like such a fool for putting up with it for so long. Tucson is cool compared to Phoenix. Modern cars are so complicated that it isn't unusual to have an issue they can't figure out. Might be...
  6. I'm thinking about changing the stock battery to a AGM type battery

Optima brand batteries are very good. I have one form 2012 I use for my tent lights and my boat. Our BS's have way too much electrical draws all the time. In the winter, my Auto/Stop/Start would quit working every two weeks or so because I was making short drives with my lights on. A few...
  7. 245-65-17 vs 235-70-17

A light vehicle with wide tires may "float over mud", but it may also slide you off the road. A narrower tire will cut through the surface mud and find the hard surface below. Assuming there is a hard surface below. Wider tires are ride softer on rock. In sand and mud, letting some air out...
  8. TUXMAT Floor Mats added to 2023 BB

I ourdered the Tuxmats for mine and they fit great. I had Weather Tech in my Jeep Liberty, and I liked them a little better.
  9. Falken Wildpeak AT Trail

The stock size for the upgraded wheels is 235/65R17. I've been very happy with mine in off road mud, snow and rocks. 15,000 miles on them and they still look new. Haven't had enough snow here to test them on the road.
  10. With all the threads on negative Ford service...

I bought mine from Melloy Ford in Los Lunas, NM. They had one on order so they modified it for me and I only had to wait a couple of months. No issues so far. I took my 6.0 Superduty to Power Ford here in Albuquerque, and they were the recommended "Bullet Proof Diesel Installer" for this...
  11. New Shoes -- Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT 245/65/17

DH3117, how did the KO2's affect your gas mileage? I had them on my Jeep Liberty and I took about a 3mpg hit. I loved them for offroad.
  12. Cargo Management System Upgrade

My wife uses a trunk storage organizer. It folds up when you don't need it, and keeps things from rolling around. I thought the CMS was a good idea, but I'm disappointed in it. It is too low to fit my totes, so I never use it. The lips on the sides that hold it just take up cargo space.
  13. 1 year anniversary and a Coyote

I read about a head on collision that killed 8 people because someone swerved to avoid a dead dog on the road. Vehicles are repairable and replaceable. People sometimes not so much.
  14. Brakes-96,000 miles and never replaced

It depends a lot on how you drive. I watch people (like my dear wife) speed up 300 yards from a red light and then slam on the brakes. When I see a red light, I take my foot off the gas. Keeping a proper following distance means you don't have to make so many panic stops. The big problem...
  15. Overhead Driver's Door Entry Assist Handle

When my mother-in-law got old, she found it was easiest to sit on the seat first, then swing her legs in. It did help to have a handle.
  16. Smoke from engine compartment

I was told once by an electrician that there is magic smoke in all electronics. Once you let the smoke out, it will never be the same. I've found that to be true for many electric devices. Glad it was just a water pump and a belt for you.
  17. Inspired Overland lightweight RTT

I'm too old to be climbing a ladder in the middle of the night. I sleep on a cot with a foam pad. My 7'x11' Springbar tent sets up in about 5 minutes with two people and less than 10 by myself. It has mosquito netting that zips tight to keep insects and snakes out. On a cold, windy morning...
  18. Intermittent clicking - ECU/ECM sounds when car is parked

The BS has way too much electrical stuff going on all the time. I've slept in mine, and just opening the door to get some ventilation turned the lights on for way too long. And later when it got cold, and I closed the doors, it was just as bad. And both times the boulders rolled. Ridiculous...
  19. How Strong of a Receiver Shackle Mount?

When I was young, my buddy tried to tow a car with his Corvair. He hooked it to the body, instead of the frame. It ripped the body piece out of his Corvair. You'd pull the entire reciever hitch out of the back of your BS long before you'd break even the pin of your hitch. Remember, even...
  20. How do the stock ATRs do in the snow? (Yes its a hot day in August, I know)

It isn't clear to me if you have the Pirelli's or the Falkens on your vehicle. I'm assuming you're talking about the Pirelli's since the Falkens are an upgrade. I have the Falkens, and have been happy with their off-road performance in snow. I'm retired, and try to avoid driving on ice, so I...
