Most people who are picky about what is a “true off roader” use a definition that would exclude this car.
Those people are full of crap.
Edit: This car has 2WD, independent suspension, no locking diff, no low range.
The BS has better gas mileage and better suspension than the jeep. As far as off road capabilities, I challenge you to find a place a stock Cherokee can go where my Badlands can’t. The BS blows the renegade and Compass out of the water both on and off road. I took my BS off roading and was...
For sure. There are reviewers who are idiots. TFL is pretty solid though. I actually liked that they showed on the rollers what the actual difference is with rock crawl vs normal mode. I’m still confused about what sand mode does though.
I disagree. They aren’t trying to prove that it’s a gimmick, but it is more capable than any previous vehicle in its class. They are surprised by it because it is surprising. There is a reason Subaru just released a new off road version of the outback. Ford has broken new ground here, and...
I think the best way to describe it is that there is not another stock vehicle that has better off road capabilities and also equals or exceeds its gas mileage and on road performance.
In my opinion:
Absolutely don’t get the full size Bronco unless you intend to do the level of serious off roading it is capable off. If you never take it on anything worse than a rough gravel road, you are just getting an expensive SUV with poor road handling, awful gas mileage, and an interior...
I don’t know whether it actually changes how the engine operates or it just changes the throttle sensitivity, but there is a dramatic power difference between drive modes in the Badlands(2.0). I’m not sure how that difference is achieved, but it’s definitely more than just the start-stop function.
Just the opposite actually. Turbos are almost unaffected by altitude because they are limited by the pressure difference across the pump not the volume flow rate. Modern turbos with lots of sensors are especially immune because they can adjust boost as needed with altitude to ensure the intake...
I’m not even going to bother with it. At under 500 miles it should be flawless right now. Plus, I don’t want them to be able to say “why didn’t you bring this in earlier” if there is a bigger issue later.
I didn’t know that throwing a literal tantrum about an ad now qualifies as “motoring journalism”.
I personally think Ford (and other companies) would be smart to make ads that encourage people to look outside their original scope to see if another class of vehicle might better suit their needs...
My experience with my BL so far: If you don’t ever plan to take it somewhere more rugged than a gravel road. Don’t get a BS and definitely don’t get a Badlands. Don’t get me wrong, I love mine, but for the price you can get a far better compact road SUV with AWD. The suspension is soft, the gas...
The fog light being on I can explain. The fog lights double as cornering lights. When your vehicle is on with the lights on at low speed or stopped, it will turn on the fog light on whichever side the wheels are turned to shine into the corner.
I can’t explain the noises, but it seems like a...
I think the full size base Bronco is meant to be a platform for mods. There will be lots of people doing all sorts of crazy suspension, tires, body mods... on it. Ford wanted to keep the base as cheap as possible for the people who wanted to set it up themselves.
