I would take the retainer nut or bolt to Home Depot to the hardware aisle. They usually have the template where you can try out and see if it's metric or imperial and what size. That is usually what I do when I need a nut or bolt but am not sure what I have as the mating end.

Making the wheels stick out farther may cause rub issues when turning.
