Hi, I’m getting errors pop up on dash screen of 2021 Bronco Sport Outer Banks

Hill Start Assist Not Available, 4WD Fault Service Required, 4WD Off, Service Advance Trac

These error pop ups come and go with the orange wrench

The car recently had recall service done and this was never an issue before

Please let me know how to proceed with having this intermittent computer module issue covered under the 5 year/60k warranty, particularly since it began following the recall service - thank you

If it is actually the 4WD module that is bad, it is not covered by the 5yr/60,000 powertrain warranty as its listed as an electrical part, even though it controls the drivetrain.

It's best to take your Sport back to the dealer and have have it scaned for codes to find the cause of the errors. Unfortunately you'll likely have to pay a diagnostic charge, depending on the outcome it could be waived.

I had an issue with the RDU shudder noise and had the fluid replaced. Then started to get some error messages about servicing the Advance Trac and 4WD system. Couldn't use any goat modes. The RDU motor actuator was faulty. There is a service bulletin and recall for that actuator on certain year models. posted it before on the forum. It is sm51117 I think

Thank you! I had just had the 25S76 PCM software update recall done - any chance this could influence these errors popping up for first time?

Also any idea if car is still safe to drive even with these errors?

Thank you so much!

Here is the SSM51117 info:

As stated in my previous post, you'll need to take your Sport to the dealer so they can diagnose what's causing the error.
You should still be able to drive, the default is front wheel drive, the error messages will continue to pop up.

I would check out my thread. It does sound like the 4wd module. You might even have a voltage issue. in my web searches on this subject I did see online that Ford did accept the warranty on this as part of the drive train for some owners, but I think you might need to do some legwork

Hi - read all your posts and took it to dealership and test code found is C0090. they are telling me I need to pay for a new AWD module since it is failing internally

I didn't have any of these errors (Hill Start Assist Not Available, 4WD Fault Service Required, Service Advance Trac, Collision Assist Not Available) popping up until right after bringing the car in for water pump replacement (under powertrain warranty) and they also did the 25S76 pcm software update recall at that time. 2021 outer banks with 40k miles

Seems like a strange coincidence that I would randomly get this issue right after those two services were performed together. Any insight about whether this C0090 test code error could potentially be related to the work/recall done, or completely random strange timing coincidence?

Thank you so much!

My opinion is the 4WD code relates to the PCM Software update - several owners have had the same exact experience as you. My understanding is the PCM software update does reset other modules and my suspicion is the 4WD fault shows up after that - however in your case, it could have been a faulty 4WD module prior to the work you had done but the issue didn’t show until after the work was performed (due to the module resets)

It happened to several other owners same as you but there is no way to prove your case (or theirs) that the PCM update was the cause of a 4WD module failure. And I’m betting many people will disagree with me saying there’s no relationship between the work you had done and the later 4WD module failure.

So your suspicions are probably correct but impossible to prove.

If you are under drivetrain warranty milage and period I would really do the legwork and look in other places. I have read that some people have gotten their 4wd modules covered. And especially if you are under the warranty I would contact customer care and see if they can throw you a bone
