Mystery white powder coming out of hood

It's all over under the hood. I checked the grill...nothing. I saved a sample.

Yes. Touchless. I've been using same carwash for a year. I thought about it too being from the car wash maybe building up inside the hood and finally working its way out after a year.

You live in MN, so I still think it is probably related to road salt.

After looking at the picture again could it be a white lithium grease?

The 2nd picture does look like a salt & water residue.

Call me crazy, but it kind of looks like what happens when we have a severe storm here in NC and the pollen just gets blasted off the trees. Pollen mixes with rain, often sideways rain, and trickles into my gas cap and under my hood. There are streaks of watery pollen in all the nooks and crannies from some wild storms we've had this week.

Your not crazy...sounds logical.

It has a dry, gritty feel to it. It seems to have been a one-time occurrence. I'm not finding any more fresh signs of it. Since NO ONE ELSE had the same issue, it will apparently be another mystery of life.

Like the guy in the 2nd post said.It could be salt if you're brave you could taste it.

Update after two years I'm pretty sure it from the car wash I use every week...
