Well, Subaru never owned SAAB. GM bought out half of the company in 1989, and then bought the other half in 2000.
But yeah, they were one of the de-facto snow belt car brands before AWD became super common. My 900s on snow tires were virtually unstoppable in the winter.
Owned two classic '91 900s, a (base) 900 and a 900S. Both were fantastic cars.

Oh wow. How times changed. I know it's purely anecdotal, but ours has only been super reliable with zero warranty issues. Only off to the dealer for one recall issue (and an oil change) in 12k miles.
