As mentioned, an acquisition fee is typically tied to a lease, sometimes they are waived depending if some type of promotion is going on.
My wife and I noticed a $645 "acquisition fee" on the build & price tool when we first began looking at the Badlands. I asked a Ford employee about it and was told that it was for leases. He said he had no idea why it was there, because it just adds to the apparent cost of the vehicle.

I'm sure many buyers just assume it is a normal fee that all buyers must pay -- or they may think it is associated ith getting a FMC loan, as Dogula said. It isn't clear, and Ford should either remove it (preferable) or at least explain what it is. As it is, it's probably costing them some sales.

From the posts here I think it's safe to assume there will be no surprise loan fees, that makes me feel better.

It's there because the payment calculator defaults to leasing. If you click the calculator and switch to Finance, the Acquisition Fee is no longer shown at the bottom of the page.

I see a "finance" tab (top right) but not a calculator. I'm looking at this page:
https://shop.ford.com/configure/broncosport/config

No need to spend much time on this, it's really a side issue.

Ford Bronco Sport Are there fees for Ford Motor Credit loans? 1647124286393

Or at the bottom:

Ford Bronco Sport Are there fees for Ford Motor Credit loans? 1647124311795

Pops up the Payment Estimator, then select Finance. Voila, no more acq fee.

Got it, thank you!

I do think Ford would be better off not defaulting to the lease page, because it makes each vehicle appear to cost more than it actually does -- $645 more in our case.

Fighting with a dealer won't seem very scary with such a detailed description of other users' buying experiences. Moreover, I've noticed that if you attack first, the seller will most likely refuse the temptation to offer you unfavorable financing terms :) This is what Flash was talking about - you ask questions first, and sellers give you the information you already know. You thus insure yourself when you show your awareness (gained, in particular, on forums). This universal method works almost everywhere - from a university session to a consultation with Mortgage Broker Cambridge. People are embarrassed when they no longer have a monopoly on information.
