Hey group, so I need clarification, I have a BS Badlands, it came with the pirelli tires, is it the 235 tires that give it the 8.8 inch ground clearance, or the suspension on the badlands? Basically what should my ground clearance be lol

The 8.8 clearance is achieved with the upgraded 235/65/R17 tires. That tire has 29 inches Of outside diameter. The 225s have 28.5 inches of outside diameter which means you would lose .5 inches to make it 8.3” of clearance

So technically the suspension added some more clearance than the other trims and then the tires add another .5” for a total of 8.8 if you do the upgraded tires

I believe with 235 tires are about 1/2 inch taller then the standard 225 Badlands tires. The Badlands has a 1 inch suspension lift over the lower trim levels. So the 235 tires give it a tad more clearance in addition to the 1 inch lift that all Badlands have.

Great thank you for that, I did upgrade the tires but same 225 just in a Toyo off-road tire, I can live with .5 less clearance, I was parked beside an outer banks today and it looked like I was the same if not maybe even lower, but perhaps just the parking lot

The OB may also have added a 1.5 spacer lift or some other modification.

When I look at my Badlands compared to the lower level models it looks much taller, I do have 245/65/17 size tires. I was at the gas station the other day and another guy had an OB with leather and all, he had the stock wheel and tire combo, it reminded me of a station wagon, it sat so low in comparison.

245 would be nice, unfortunately where I am any tires are very hard to get, I was told it could be weeks to get the ones I wanted, and ofcourse addition costs per tire for shipping, but all this tire talk makes me want bigger ones now

When I see another BS, I like to park beside it and snap some pics.
Here is my FE beside an OB.

You have the 225/65R17s and the car next to you has the 225/60R18s? Those should be the same height, so did you add the 1.5" lift + factory 1" lift to make this height difference?

Actually if the entire circumference of the tire is a half-inch rounder you would be achieving a quarter inch of ride height because the entire half inch is on both sides of the tire the only part you would gain more clearance from would be the contact point from the rim on the bottom half of tire to the ground.

The Badlands has taller Springs increased ride height .8 inch.

That ground looks uneven.
Look at the far right wheel tire where it touches the ground and look at the vehicle on the left the rear left wheel where it touches the ground uneven surface.
When you're just looking at the difference inches can be looking at the two closest rear bumper points they're not that far off. Imo

A Car and Driver article said this: "A Ford engineer tells us owners can upgrade to 30.5-inch tires without any clearance problems, but 31s won't fit without increasing the height of the suspension."

The BS BL has a higher rate spring than the other models which gives it more lift. People could essentially buy the BL springs and do the same to the other models.
