The problem with that story is , only certain BS's were effected with any of those issues . Our BS had the wrong Catalytic converter installed , worked just fine , they replaced the Converter & the rest of the exhaust with it . Only a few were recalled for that issue .

Where is the quality check with installing the wrong cat?

Ummmmmmmmm....many cats look the same from the outside. Just saying there.
I get that having worked on cars….

The majority of catalytic converters are pretty much the same technology, etc, but just to mess with you a little, not the same shape all the time.

As long as the lamda sensor is fitted in, it is generally not a problem. It has to be of the same size and catalyser comb depth if you want it to work, or it can affect the exhaust emissions if it is either too big or too small.

…But still it is an assembly line and someone is not paying attention, which always lends to what else are they not paying attention to.

What else would be on the BS assembly line , a 2.0 Cat ? How could that be so wrong ?

More then likely the wrong Cat's were delivered to the wrong assembly line & they installed what they were given .

I don't think anyone who is missing an engine cover would have minded getting the wrong one , they would have to install the correct one under warranty , right ?
