I really want to like this car, but..... I went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't turn over. A short hum, no clicking sounds, nothing. Dead. No dashboard lights, nothing. Ford road assistance came out and was convinced it was the battery, jumped it, didn't work. It was towed this morning to the Ford dealer, after it took the poor tow truck driver over an hour to get the car in neutral to get on the bed. It would go in neutral, then automatically shift to Park on its own, a safety feature I was aware of, but when you need it in neutral, you want it to stay in neutral.
I'll post back when I hear that my car has been fixed, or not fixed, and if I should keep it, or turn it in. I've owned it for 15 days. Bottom line, I could never get the car started, and it wasn't the battery because the lights and radio were working, but no dashboard lights and no running car.

Batteries can have enough juice to power electronics but not turn the car over. It sounds a lot like a bad battery to me. But I’ve been wrong before….

I hope they figure it out quickly for you. Ours had the check engine light come on, then the transmission started slipping at less than 900 miles. It went into limp mode and was towed over a week ago to the dealership. They haven’t touched it yet. I guess their “transmission specialist” was out last week.

2 weeks ago mine wouldn't start. Had it hauled to my Ford dealer. Turned out to be chewed wiring at the fuel pump assembly. I never had this problem with any other vehicles. Dealer told me they are using soy-based wiring insulation with attracts rodents. I'm not saying that is your problem, but it is a possibility.

Car sitting at the dealership for a week without them working on it seems to be common problem. I had the same experience 2 weeks ago. They have a shortage of employees, just like everyone else these days. Good luck getting yours fixed

There's an 8-10 week wait for service appointments with transmission specialists. I'm still waiting for them to look at mine (see "Is this noise normal...?" thread).

Is this 8-10 week wait applicable to Broncos that went into limp mode and had to be towed to the dealership?

I would think it would be much more cost effective to get vehicles fixed as soon as possible, rather than paying for rental vehicles for that long.

Waiting times will depend on the Dealer , some are better then others .

If the Battery has in internal short or a dead Cell , it will not take a charge or a jump .

Depends on the dealer and area, probably not as long if the vehicle can't drive at all.

When my Sport wouldn't start last week, I got same-day diagnosis at a dealer by showing up at 7am, but the service advisor said IF it needed more work, the turnaround time would be 2-3 weeks. Fortunately it didn't and I'm good to go on that issue.

Update... Car was towed on Friday morning. Not a peep from the dealer. They did warn me that they were behind and it possibly wouldn't be looked at until Monday. No loaners on the lot due to shortage of cars. I talked to Ford Customer Service and they were extremely helpful. Offered me $35 a day on rental reimbursement, however, I know the cost of rentals because I rent quite a bit, and said $35 will barely put a dent in the daily rate because cars in this area (Indiana and Chicago) are going for close to $100 a day. He told me to rent the car and turn the receipt in when I'm done and they would fully reimburse me. Still waiting to hear from the dealer... I'm very curious as to what the problem is/was. Thanks everyone for your replies.

So,, the dealership finally started the process today. They said the fluid levels were not an issue and the transmission needs to be completely torn down. This is supposed to take a minimum of two weeks.

At this point, I would think Ford would want to have the dealership send them this bad transmission and just replace it with a new one. Like mentioned, this way they would prevent future issues.

Update on original thread. It was a defective battery. This can happen when the car sits in cold or hot weather too long during transit from wherever in kingdomcome it was coming from. It could also happen from other things, but I stopped paying attention to him. It was also explained to me that this is the same battery that other Fords use (Escape, Explorer, etc.), so it's not just because it's a Bronco battery. They assured me that it will probably never happen again, and if you Google other cars, you will find if you search long enough, that batteries on new cars are sometimes defective. I'm buying that story, not sure I should, but I am because I really like this car and want to keep it. I now have a brand new battery. The reason the lights and radio worked but the jump didn't is because the battery didn't have enough juice to get the car going, just the radio and lights.

As far as the car not staying in neutral, listen to this in case you have the same problem down the road. If you are in the car with the door open, your car will not go/stay in neutral because it's a safety feature. It will automatically stay in park. If your door is shut and you are sitting in the seat, but you don't have your seatbelt on, the car will not go to neutral (safety feature). However, if you are in your car and seated with door shut and seatbelt on, the car will go to neutral. I am okay with that safety feature, but geez louise, thanks for telling me about that one!

Bottom line, I think I will keep it. I'm out of town and picking it up next week.

sorry about that. I mistakenly posted on your thread. Sounds like yours will be fine. Good luck.
