Howdy, all! Just had a question about whether anyone is experiencing engine rattling upon acceleration with their Bronco Sport? I've had my Outer Banks about 2.5 weeks, and it has about 550 miles on it at this point. This being a brand new vehicle, the noise just makes me cringe when I hear it! Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Are you sure it's the engine vs something else? Transmission shifting, loose splash shield or heat shield underneath, loose cable or something in the engine compartment? Vehicle noises are weird - they sound like or appear to be from something or somewhere then end up being something completely different than what you thought

Regardless you have a new vehicle with a warranty so definitely worth having dealership take a look. Always insist on a ride a long with the service writer or tech. Also ask if you can compare with another BS on the lot. A video or recording can also be helpful.
Remember - your warranty is good at any Ford dealer so if you feel like you're getting blown off or some reason don't trust what they're telling you take it somewhere else.

Yeah, I will definitely take it to the dealership as I can't be for sure where the noise is coming from. All I do know is that the rattling happens upon acceleration. As soon as I let off the gas, the noise subsides.

I have experienced the same with our OB. We have about 800 miles on it. I was driving through our neighborhood yesterday afternoon, and just like you say, while accelerating lightly, I heard this very strange rattling sound. As soon as I let off the gas it went away. It seemed like after it did it a couple of times it stopped. My wife took it to the grocery store right after I got home and said there were no weird sounds. I’m curious now if there are more out there that are seeing this with the 1.5L.

There are some other strange sounds I've heard as well while driving the OB. I'm definitely no vehicle guru so it's hard to pinpoint what they exactly sound like-- However, its almost like I hear certain clicking sounds at times, or even a lesser intense noise similar to what your garbage disposal sounds like when you accidentally flip the switch with no water running. Maybe these are all normal sounds? Maybe they are not? And maybe I'm just paranoid my new vehicle is a lemon.

I don't think you're being paranoid. There was definitely a rattle in ours that I had never heard before. It wasn't a little rattle, either. It was very noticeable. I'm hoping as others report the same issue to Dealers, Ford might issue a TSB once they determine the problem. Crossing my fingers...

Check out the thread On this episode of, "Is this noise normal?"
Many are experiencing this very thing on and off when driving their BS.

I’m unfortunately having the same problem. It’s a rattle/creaking sound that is definitely cringy. I’m just gonna call my local dealership Tuesday and make an appointment. Theres other threads where people are saying they’re getting new transmissions for this. It does just sound like something loose so we’ll see. I’ll update when my dealer gives me any info.

I've had the same issue. This has been happening since I first got the car a month ago. Initially, it had these weird loud scratching sound when going from idle to accelerating. Since I wanted to be more vigilant about it, I started driving without my music and noticed these noises. Sometimes it's a crackling rattling noise. I turned it into the service department at Ford today, but with them giving me a hard time about it. I told them it doesn't happen all the time so when we did a quick 10 minute drive and they didn't hear it, they wanted me to drive away with it and acted like I was crazy. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one experiencing these issues. Please update this thread with what you find just in case the service department decides to blow it off like they tried doing to me earlier.

There are a few noise threads ongoing right now, but is this one of the sounds you heard? Figured I'd link it here in case other new folks land on this thread and need the best recorded example we have right now of this particular noise.

The best way I've described the noise: "it sounds like someone's watching an A-10 Warthog 30mm BRRRRRT cannon compilation in the other room."

I saw a few different topics on this forum that matches the different sounds I've heard. Unfortunately, the service department at the dealership just called me and said they heard the rattle sound and said that it was a NORMAL sound. I told them it's a new car and that really shouldn't be "normal". They apparently want to hear it more than the one time that they heard it in the 8 miles they drove. Not sure how much more they want to hear. =-/

this noise sounds like it's a knock from the engine....i base this on the fact that it happens during acceleration which puts a greater load on the engine....the owners manual talks about this regarding the use of 87 grade octane versus using 91 grade....if you are using 87 i would suggest filling the tank with 91 grade octane...this should alleviate the rattle if it is in fact coming from the engines knock sensor....jack
