Leather Seats

Anyone else’s leather seats starting to peel? I have a 2022 bronco sport badlands, just wondering if any other years or models are having the same issue. I was just on a camping trip and on my last day noticed it was discoloured in the spot where it peeled.

Not surprised. The blue colored layer on the seat is very thin.

Others have reported and posted pics similar to yours over the years. It almost looks like something was spilled there as there also appears to be a lighter spot behind it and around the edges of the peeled section it has the same washed out appearance.

Worst part is when all the stuff breaks (e.g. front camera was cracked, washer pump was leaking), dealer said it was my fault because of a crack on the bottom of my front bash plate. Dealer said it was because of “collision damage” which was noted in the last visit, even though the crack was there all the other times I was serviced. They then refused to put the parts under my 3rd party warranty and kept making up other reasons why the stuff might be broken. Got part fixed over a month ago, paid 200 for the camera and 500 for the pump. Best part is that it still leaks!

That's a real bummer – sorry this happened to you. When you pay a significant price for a vehicle I think you have a right to expect the seats to last longer than 2-3 years. Warranty or not, I would take it back to the dealer and ask them to get a zone rep involved. At a minimum they should give you a deep discount on a new seat cover. if not comp it all together.

This is why I am not a fan of Ford's "leather: seats. They are not leather, having originated in a chemical plant not on the back of a cow, horse or other animal. This is not unique to Ford - all the major brands are using "PU Leather" aka vinyl. We bought the car with cloth seats with the express intention of having them recovered with Katzkin real leather when the cloth gets worn.

My 2012 Expedition had real leather which eventually cracked and split along the perforations for the ventilated seats, after about 10 years. We had Katzkin replacements installed in 2022 and they have been great – better than the originals. Not cheap, but fair for the quality of the product and service (fabrication + installation).
