Stop and go traffic is a great feature and seems to work pretty well, although I feel as though it stops too close to the vehicle in front, mine stops about 5 feet to the vehicle in front of me, is that normal?
I feel like it should stop leaving at least 2 cars length.

The distance is adjustable. I have ours set at the furthest distance and while it works, it is later to brake and slower on the take off than I do manually.

I use it, its a great feature but a little less than ideal.

I leave it on the 2nd closest setting for highway use. The closest setting is still too far for city traffic. I wouldn't get anywhere with people constantly cutting into the gap.

I also leave it on the 2nd closest for highway driving, whatever setting I have on city driving doesn’t seem to change the gap to the car in front when I come to a complete stop.

I haven't noticed the follow distance setting affect where the car stops in relation to the vehicle in front. It does seem to find ladders and lift gate sticking back OK but you have to be ready. More than once, I've had it get about ten feet or so from a car and then lurch as if it was going again. I haven't found it very useful at the worst traffic/merge points in this town. Every other driver is willing to cut into a 1-car length gap if it is there. Even if the system can react to that, it's a really bumpy ride that way. I like it in all other instances.

I always felt that Adaptive Cruise Control with stop and go is best used for highway driving where speeds are like 65 mph and if traffic is slower or may occasionally even come to a stop the system would automatically adjust speed to stop if necessary. If I recall correctly the vehicle will stop if necessary but there are times according to the owners manual that it will not automatically restart.

A trick I learned while using adaptive cruise control during highway driving and passing a slower vehicle in front of you that is moving at a speed below your set speed is to start accelerating while still behind the vehicle by pressing harder on the gas pedal before you switch into an open lane with no one in front of you. This allows for smooth acceleration when passing as opposed to just switching lanes and allowing the vehicle to accelerate on its own which many times results in the vehicle accelerating too quickly to get to the set speed which can be too abrupt for my taste.

Also there are warnings when not to use the system:

WARNING: Do not use adaptive cruise control on winding roads, in heavy traffic or when the road surface is slippery. This could result in loss of vehicle control, serious injury or death.
