Water pump leak

Just had Ford replace my water pump, under warranty,due to leakage. It's a 2021 BS 1.5L Big Bend with 29,000 Kms on it. I was changing my oil and had noticed a small drip of antifreeze at the bottom passenger side of the engine. Tracked it up to the vent hole located at the front of the water pump. Also the reservior was almost empty.

Several other reports here of leaking water pumps on the 1.5L. Be happy that they actually had a pump to replace it with. Reports of 6-8 week wait times to get a water pump are typical, with others getting a pump right away. It seems to be a crap shoot on whether a pump is available or not.

As Eric notes, there have been several report of water pump failures and associated coolant loss. We've all gotten so used to reliability of modern vehicles that some never even look at the engine (except to check if there is an engine cover). If I were a 1.5L owner I would incorporate a weekly check under the hood with emphasis on coolant level. Any indication of coolant loss would necessitate an increase to daily checks of coolant level and an inspection by a qualified technician ASAP. You DON'T want to run out of coolant, and you DO want a record of a bad water pump at your dealership before the warranty expires.

2021 Bronco Sport BIG BEND 12k miles, slight COOLANT LEAK noted at regular oil change not low on coolant, however lightly colored coolant green visible small puddle (dollar bill sized) noticed after parking (not due to wet weather).

Monday: In shop for scheduled mechanical appt (due to leak)after one month wait. BRAKE RECALL replacement completed.

Tuesday: Dealership reported LEAK at WATERPUMP (ordered Tuesday said to be on back order) and additional testing requested by shop. Rental vehicle requested and delivered to home.

Wednesday: Dealership reported: additional testing showed coolant LEAK IN CYLINDER as well. Resolve-NEW ENGINE ORDER, estimated completion one week.

Note: had also had RATTLE while decelerating between 25-30 miles per hour, shop did not confirm. Will record.

Other issues: BUMP in DASH passenger dash was DEFROST CAM ARM-replaced under warranty. Other issues, EXTERIOR BUMPY FILM that is not easily removed from washing and dealer acid wash, they recommended self pay clay bar, tire chewed up front driver mud flap and only getting LOW 24.1 MPG on eco with light foot (Its not an exaggeration).

We've owned 2.0L EcoBoost-equipped vehicles for eight years now, and I've not heard of any issues with the water pumps.

I had the same bump in the dash board, it’s fixed now, exterior paint is not normal, had an acid wash and clear coat, still bumpy, was told to use a clay bar, and the tire chewed up the mud flap on the driver’s side. I finally got the gas mileage up to 24.5 with a light foot. The engine was replaced in January and now the water pump is bad. It has less than 19000 miles on it and is a 2021 1.5 liter.
It has a rattle when started between 20-25 mph. Shop has never been able to hear it.
Do I need to request a new engine with this water pump being bad? They had it at least 3 weeks to replace the engine and said they won’t be able to work on it till January 25.
They said they would give me a rental on Friday but today is Monday!!!
