I bought my BS in September and have been happy with it.
Two weeks ago I was planning on taking a trip to Florida so I thought I should check the oil level. It has
a little over 6k miles so I was planning on having the oil changed at my dealer once I returned. The oil
level showed a quart low so I topped it off. I didn't have a second thought about the oil until I returned
home 10 days later.
I checked it once returning home and see that it is a quart low again. I topped it off again, not giving it
another thought.
I do some local driving and when I get hope I see a pool of oil under my BS. I clean it up and drive it again
locally. Same thing, another pool of oil. The dipstick shows low again.
I call the dealer to get an appointment for the oil change but thought I should talk to someone about the
oil leak.
He wasn't much help, only saying the next opening was 8 days later and that they will investigate the oil
leak, correcting that, and then change the oil.
In the mean time I am continuing to drive locally and I still have the oil leak. I can't do without the car so
should I add a quart and put up with the leak until next week?
Is there a logical reason for the leak?
Any ideas?

You have an appointment, so unless you can find another Ford dealer that will take you sooner, I'd just keep monitoring the oil level, and topping off until you can get the vehicle in.

Or, call and request to take the vehicle in for warranty repair (I assume this BS is still under warranty) and request a loaner. When you take it in for the oil leak detection and repair, ask for an oil change after the repair is performed.

I would not think that you should have to spend any money on a warranty issue (if the vehicle is under warranty) by buying oil until the dealer has an opening for you. You are inconvenienced, not them.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

That was Thursday. The service depth called at 4pm Friday to say my BS was ready, that they found the leak, changed the oil and filter and rotated the tires, no charge. He said that it was a defective oil filter that caused the leak.
I picked up my car Saturday morning and the cashier said some filters were manufactured with two gaskets, this was the source of the leak.
Before I left I decided to check the oil. You got it, it was a quart low. The cashier told me to go to Fast Lane and tell them. Their oil change tech topped it off.
All's well that ends well!

Thanks for your response. The leak has been resolved and I am happy with my dealer, Krause Family Ford in Woodstock, Ga.

Was the oil changed by someone before you noticed the leak at 6,000 miles or did it come from the factory with 2 gaskets?

The gasket from oil filters sometimes can get stuck to the oil filter housing when removing the oil filter. Once a new filter is put on with its own gasket overtop of the old one you are sure to get a leak.

These Techs need to check the dates of the BS before and oil change. I bet there are more than a few BS running around a quart low.

I bought it from the dealer with 1500 miles. I didn't know it had the oil changed before but when I brought it in and looked it up they saw an oil change at another location, same dealer.
I didn't know it has an oil filter housing.
I noticed the leak about 50 miles ago. It wasn't a small leak, it would leave a 10 inch puddle.

Below is a picture of the 2.0 Engine. In pink is where the oil filter gasket could get stuck to when changing. I would think this is more likely what happened rather than an oil filter coming from the factor with 2 gaskets.

I am glad the dealer took care of your oil change for free.

I would be curious to know how well the protective cover that gets removed to do the oil change holds up after being soaked with oil.
