Putting this at the front this is not an ALARM post this is probably a fluke and they are jumping right on it.

Ok figured I would make my own thread about this. Anyhow I picked my BS BB 9/18/2023 it had 2060 miles on it, it was a loaner I guess. I sat around the dealer while they serviced it for the new owner me. I drove it home and all was well put about 200 miles or so on it and when I was accelerating I heard a slight knock. So I figured let me check the oil and stuff well pulled the dipstick and it had maybe a 1/4 of an inch on the stick and none in the 5 holes with 2290 miles.

So off to the dealer and let them know about it they apologized and took it back and serviced it again, well an oil change. I drove it home and and the next day left for work so it sat parked for a week and a half. I am a Tugboat Capt and work 2 weeks on and 1 week off, anyhow I get off the boat this Tuesday and get home and drove it a bit. That day I needed fuel well being old school LOL I checked the oil when I fueled up, now mind you the mileage is now at 2550 or so. Well what to my surprise I see this .

Well called the dealer again and let them know.
The next day I am up at the dealer dropping my baby off and getting a rental truck. Dang these F150s are huge now.

Anyhow the dealer and Ford this forum have been awesome. Everybody at Planet Ford of Spring has been very helpful, it may be a bit they said before they will find out and fix what needs to be fixed but I am confident they will make it right.

Hope my grammar is not to bad just a dumb old towboater

Sorry to hear about your engine troubles, but I'm glad that you seem to be well taken care of by your dealership and Ford. Please keep us updated!

Did you check the oil level before you left the dealer after they did the oil change?
Maybe the tech is just putting in the 5 quarts for the smaller oil pan of the earlier models instead of the 6+ quarts for the newer models with the plastic larger oil pan.

Honestly, no I did not check before leaving I did voice my feelings about the different oil pans.

I would add that 1.5 quarts would be higher on the stick than that I would think but that was a thought on my mind also.

Did you check the oil level before leaving the dealership for the second time for the same thing?
Bingo! I'm thinking it was never properly filled in the first place by the dealer.

Maybe your dipstick is too short?

I know it sounds crazy. The dipstick is not a precision part and, considering all of the individual pieces that go into a dipstick assembly, and all of the machined reference points on an engine, (all of which have variability in production) it is actually one of the most difficult pieces of an engine to design and build a million of. That's why they got rid of the "Add" and "Full" marks and went to "ok in this range" markings.

I also have a 2023 BS BB. The dipstick that came with my engine measures 18 19/32 inches from the flat at the bottom of the yellow handle to the very bottom of the grey plastic indicator.

I have found it useful to calibrate the dipstick for every engine, marking an accurate "ADD" and "FULL" line on the stick, which can be done during an oil change.

I have also found over the years that most oil change places (including dealers) will add oil until the dipstick reads full. This is too much oil. The correct level should be somewhere in the middle of the stick. (They have to balance customer complaints of short fills versus giving away a half quart of oil with every job.)

My Dad used to say "If you didn't do the work yourself, you don't know anything about the job"

Thanks for the input. Yes it could very well be the dipstick the dealer has it now and its up to them to make it right for now. And yep you are correct to much oil is probably worse than to little.
When I get the Bronco back I will measure for sure so I can compare your measurement.
On the dipstick front yeah its crazy I rebuilt a 90 F250 with 351W about 8 years ago a very common engine but try and find a oem dipstick made for that model and engine I think I found the last one.

Well dealer called today my Bronco is ready. They said the tech both times filled it with 6 quarts instead of 6.6, so that .6 quarts was supposed to raise the level, see pic above. Just goes against everything I have learned in my 40 years of working on cars and rebuilding engines.
But hey it has a bumper to bumper warranty guess I will run it till it dies or its close to the end of the warranty.
They did not drive it just ran it without driving as the miles never changed on my app. Just the miles to empty changed. So turbo was never brought into the equation at idle. They said there were no codes thrown. I got that I never saw a CEL.

Sounds like the dealer is trying to short oil change customers by a 1/2 quart. If they do a lot of oil changes that adds up to lotsa free profit $$$$$. Probably thinking they'll never get caught because who checks the oil level after an oil change? You, that's who. (And probably every member of this forum.) Good catch on your part.

I'm curious about what the dipstick reads with the extra 0.6 quarts. And the true length of the stick.

The 2023 1.5L owner's manual says to run the engine, then shut it off and wait 15 minutes before checking the oil level. Yikes! That's a long time! Those instructions are followed by this statement:
"Note: Checking the oil level too soon could result in an inaccurate reading."

Anyway, glad you got your vehicle back. Best wishes for a long and happy life with your new car.
