I just bought a skid plate for the front bumper. When I got it, I looked under the car and noticed the rear bolt on the driver side was missing. When I put a bolt in the hole I discovered the nut plate is not present. Would this be a warranty repair or should I try and tap the hole to fit a different bolt.

See if the parts dept at local Ford dealer can get you one.

I the nut plate is welded to the frame, and there isn't a way to reach the back side of the bollt to place a nut.

I doubt the dealer will cover it under warranty. By the nature of the part (skid/bash plate) they may just say it was damaged or broke off.

Well I researched ford parts and see that it may be a nut plate, so I'm going to the ford dealer later to verify and get part if needed. Hopefully it is a clip on nut plate.

The dealer said that the nut plate is internally welded to the boxed frame and cannot be repaired. So I will be tapping the hole with a 10mm tap and got a screw that will fit. Hope I will be able to remedy, otherwise I will have a useless skid plate I just bought.

Can you use a Nutsert/Rivnut in that spot? Cheers!

Never thought about that. I'll be looking into something like this. Thanks for the suggestion!

Also don't forget corrosion protection for the affected area. A hole with bare metal is begging for corrosion.

I purchased a riv nut tool and inserts. I had to drill out the hole in the frame, but was able to install an M8 insert and it worked. I would never had thought about it without your suggestion. Thank you!
