Sometimes you can't believe a simple job could be so messed up.

Sure I could go to the dealer and ask them to square up my license plate bolts, but I don't think I can trust them..

Any advice?
  • Can the dealer fix this easily?
    • Are we looking at a $5000 new bumper (saw that on another forum)
  • Simple offset of left hole?
    • Does Home Depot carry a fastener doodad to "lower" the screw?
    • Surely Napa has a doodad?
  • Redrill both sides and silicone the holes?
Thanks

I'd be standing on someone's desk making a scene. That's ridiculous and unacceptable. I would have thought the rear plates holes were drilled at the factory though.

I'm surprised the bumper doesn't come with the holes already in it.

The front plates were factory drilled. The rear ones were not. I "think" the factory always places a subtle guide template where the drill should go.

That's weird since front plate mount is a dealer installed option.

BINGO! It's not very subtle though. It's very clear where you need to put the screws as there are two raised 'circles' where the screw self taps into the bumper No drilling needed. That's either straight stupidity or laziness.

I'd raise a scene with the manager at least negotiate rebate or oil changes or something...then fix it yourself. That's not a big deal mechanically speaking but 100% messed up.

Actually, the front plate bracket is not shipped installed. I did my own. There are small dimples in the bumper where you should drill. Don’t know about the back. The holes where there when I picked it up.

Generally in states that require a front plate, the dealership will drill for it and put one of their frames on the car at a minimum. You have to go to great lengths to make sure they don’t do it, if that is what you want.

Granger gives you the option to have them install it or do it yourself. I chose the later.

Could you just redrill the license plate? The screws would be off, but maybe less noticable?
Yeah. I am getting a big bracket to go with my yet to be revealed super plate. The bracket would cover it. I hate to drill two holes..

Front plates were perfect. They had the small white plastic squares trimmed and level.
