If you're like me and you balk at the idea of spending $200+ on a Yakima-branded bike holder, this tutorial is for you.

  1. Buy some Paracord
  2. Alternatively, buy two of these CamJam XT from REI for $13.50 by NiteIze which come with paracord:

  3. Fold down rear seats and remove bike front wheel and seat
  4. Run the Paracord through both metal anchor points:

  5. Run the cord that's coming from the front metal loop over the handlebars and loop around the handlebar once close to the grip:

  6. Take the loose end and tie a slip knot like this for the hook to attach to:

  7. Attach the hook to the loop and tighten the slip knot:

  8. Pull the knot end of cord through the cam mechanism of the metal hook:

  9. Tighten the cord until the front suspension on the bike starts to compress:

  10. Repeat for the other side:

  11. Stow your helmet and front wheel and seat:

The bike is now secure.

Alternatively, learn how make a Truckers Hitch and you can skip the hooks and just use Paracord. Bam! You just saved yourself $200.
