If you're like me and you balk at the idea of spending $200+ on a Yakima-branded bike holder, this tutorial is for you.
Alternatively, learn how make a Truckers Hitch and you can skip the hooks and just use Paracord. Bam! You just saved yourself $200.
- Buy some Paracord
- Alternatively, buy two of these CamJam XT from REI for $13.50 by NiteIze which come with paracord:
- Fold down rear seats and remove bike front wheel and seat
- Run the Paracord through both metal anchor points:
- Run the cord that's coming from the front metal loop over the handlebars and loop around the handlebar once close to the grip:
- Take the loose end and tie a slip knot like this for the hook to attach to:
- Attach the hook to the loop and tighten the slip knot:
- Pull the knot end of cord through the cam mechanism of the metal hook:
- Tighten the cord until the front suspension on the bike starts to compress:
- Repeat for the other side:
- Stow your helmet and front wheel and seat:
