I live in Nashville TN with a lot of tailgaters and would like to install a third brake light flasher to avoid a rear end with my new Bronco Sport. Anyone have any ideas as to how I might do this?

Diode dynamics has a cool one that goes in the hitch but works with a 7 pin receiver and we have a 4 pic receiver.

Will either of these work with the third (upper) brake light? I have seen these on other vehicles and they seem to be quite sufficient. How might one install it?

Found one cheap. All you do is ground one side and cut the power wire and splice the box in.

I hate those flashers, it makes me want to crash into that vehicle so it will stop flashing, lol

Well, given how much they get your attention I'd say they work spectacularly!

Ok I got my third brake light flash unit installed. I didn't have time to take pictures but I will explain the process and issues as best I can.

Disassembly:
Yes you have to disassemble some stuff. The plastic cover has clips on the sides and in the middle. Start with the sides first by using your hands to pull inward not down, with the back open, then the same for the middle. With that done you can disconnect the bake light connector. I cut the cable midways between the harness and the connector. The tape takes a bit of time to remove from the wires. I was careful with a razor blade and some working at the tape to free it.

Installation:
Once the wires were free I stripped all the wires about one quarter inch. Twisted the wire strands to make it easier to install into the crimp connectors. I installed the crimp connectors and crimped them using a crimper tool. I double checked that all the wiring was going in the right direction. My www.SuperBrightLed.com LSC-100A flasher module has two wires coming in, positive and negative, and only one positive coming out. I scratched my head on this one when looking at it but finally realized that all three of the negative wires get connected together. Make sure you give a tug on the wires after crimping. With the back still open I stood outside and pressed the brake pedal to verify everything was operating correctly.

Assembly:
Reinstall the plastic cover starting with the middle first then the sides. I checked my brake lights again just to be sure.

My thoughts:
All this point I feel I have done everything I can do to keep my Bronco Sport from being rear ended. One thing that everyone can do without any modifications is keep a safe following distance in rain or shine. Panic stops do not mean the person behind you is ready to stop.
My wife feels I don't need to leave as much space as I do. She has been rear ended three times.

Mine was a dealer installed item and the only thing added to the vehicle. I personally like the fact that I have it, to many people on the road today are not paying attention as it is and if my flashing light grabs their attention then I say its a plus. On the subject of drivers its apparent that too many people need to go back and read a driving manual so that they understand the need for space between them and the car in front of them especially on the highway.

The only thing they understand is they don’t want someone to get between them and the car in front of them.
