There are platform racks with raised rails attachment options to keep the overall height down.Is there any reason almost all of the roof racks want to attach to crossbars- ive been thinking about fabricating my own and would like to just mount it straight to the rack ..
if you can fabricate a roof rack, you can fabricate mounts to attach it to the factory rails instead of crossbars. Is there any reason almost all of the roof racks want to attach to crossbars- ive been thinking about fabricating my own and would like to just mount it straight to the rack ..
Most roof racks depend on the crossbars for added strength and support, as the bottom is not that sturdy. Roof platforms on the other hand, connect directly to the vehicle's rails and are strong enough to span the width of the rail, and handle a lot of weight without crossbars. Is there any reason almost all of the roof racks want to attach to crossbars- ive been thinking about fabricating my own and would like to just mount it straight to the rack ..
Yea havent made up my mind on the route i want to go yet ... lightweight prefab basket or build a platform out of square tubing ....i like the convenience or a lightweight set up like the reese one but i like the idea of a full platformMost roof racks depend on the crossbars for added strength and support, as the bottom is not that sturdy.
