I thought I’d share an issue I’m having and see if it’s impacting anyone else. I have a 2021 Badlands. After startup, there’s some thermal expansion noise that comes from the exhaust - typical to when you shut your car off and hear the occasional ping.

However, after I shut mine down, it does so excessively. It’ll ping about once every half a second for about 30 seconds, and then about once per second for a minute or so. It seems to be coming from the muffler itself and it’s fairly loud.

Any ideas here?

Maybe try some 93 gas next fill up , possibly would eliminate bad gas issue, or just switch gas brand . I got my first edition about the same time as you did , no issues to report.

First Edition looks great! I’ve used exclusively 93 octane and ran a few tanks of gas through since the issue started.

Time to use that factory warranty . Maybe a loose valve or spring. Just a guess on my part

It could just be that the muffler got hot from use and is cooling quickly with the colder winter weather

Wonder if muffler has loose baffle inside? Could also be loose heat shield on exhaust somewhere. If it consistently does it a good dealer will be able to track it down.

I too have experienced new car paranoia. Type "exhaust pinging after shut off" in a Google search window and marvel at all the hits.

Unless you're experiencing driveability issues I wouldn't worry about it. If you're exhaust system is defective it will manifest in a way that cannot be ignored before the warranty expires. In the meantime, walk away quickly after you shut it down so you can enjoy your new Bronco Sport worry free!
