Hi.

I got my brakes, rotors, and tires replaced back in May 2024. I was at 55K miles. Everything seemed great. The only thing I am noticing is every time I am doing a right turn at very low speeds (<10mph), the car makes a strange noise and it feels a little off. I can't quite explain it. And it is only in low speeds turning right.
For example, imagine you are going to a parking lot, and you want to reverse park using your backup camera. So you pull to the parking space and start adjusting the car in making sure you park between the lines of the parking space. You need to pull forward to the right a little to readjust. It is at these speeds and instances where I experience this.

Not sure if the dealer forgot to screw something down or over torqued? Or something entirely different.

Any help would be appreciated.

Were the replacement tires the same size as the original tires?

I would have the dealer do a thorough check of the front end. I once had a knocking noise when turning right on an Escape that if I remember correctly had turned out to be a bad strut boot that needed to be replaced. Also as far as something feeling off did you have a wheel alignment done when replacing the tires? I am very sensitive to the slightest change in steering. I felt something did not feel right after a wheel alignment and when I took a test drive with the mechanic who did the wheel alignment he mentioned he had a hard time with adjusting the tie rods. The dealer knowing how sensitive I am checked the alignment and it was very slightly off which they adjusted. The alignment felt fine after they adjusted it.

Hey there! Could you send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage? I would like to look into your noise concerns on my end.

Did the noise start right after you had the brakes replaced?
If not, I would say it sounds like symptoms of the rear drive unit issues.

They did the wheel alignment.

Correct, right after I had the brakes and rotors installed. Not necessarily a thunk or loud noise. I don't know how to explain it, I'll try to record it and capture what I am talking about.

Click, clank, clunk, thump, clack, tick, grate, grind, rub. Just one noise or repeating. If it repeats what's the frequency? Does it happen when the car is moving or still? When you are turning the steering wheel or not? When you change from DRIVE to REVERSE? When you step on or off the brake pedal?

Inquiring minds want to know...

I'm trying to get a recording of it.

But one way to explain the noise is think of driving and turning on fresh soft snow in low speeds.
It's just one noise. Only happens in low speed (<10mph) and only when turning right.

Are you turning the steering wheel when you hear the noise? If so, can you recreate the noise sitting still just by turning the wheel? Do you hear it if you turn the wheel only a little, or do you have to turn it a lot? If a lot, keep track of how far.

Yes, the noise happens when I turn the steering wheel, I would say turning about 35% and above? The noise happens. I also wanna say the car has the same feeling as if it just snowed during this speed and turn.

I will see if it does it when I am still and update back later today. Good suggestion.

Update on this. I tested what Mark S suggested.
I'm in the car, turn the steering wheel 95% to the right, and slowly take my feet off the brake and gently place it on the accelerator, that noise happens. I wanna say it also feels like I am driving on soft snow. I really want to capture this on video, just not sure how to. Hopefully my explanation makes sense or it can lead to questions where I can better answer.

If you can consistently recreate the conditions that cause the noise that's all you need. Take in and insist on showing a technician how to do it. Once they can consistently recreate the noise they can diagnose it.

Hi all,

Just wanted to give an update on this, Incase anyone was wondering or has a similar experience. It was the new tire threads. That was the issue. Probably after 5k miles on the new tires. I hadn't even realized it went away. Just dawned me I should update this thread.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.
