From Abbotsford so not too far away. I was up your way at the beginning of Dec to visit family. I bought a 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid and within a few weeks I had a big chip on my hood, I put touch-up paint on it but I saw the scar every time I looked at my car. This time I had the paint protection film applied on the whole front end (including headlights), on recommendation from my brother who is an automotive painter. Fingers crossed it holds up. I might look into a dash cam.
Abbotsford ?? Yes I’d def recommend a dashcam (goes without saying now, I think!). Even prior to this, I was very happy to have it

I have to share my woes with those who understand. My A51 OB is under 4 months old. It has under 4,000km on it. I love it, is my pride and joy. I had it professionally ceramic coated from new and I have touchless washed and hand dried it at least every 2 weeks. Even in the winter. This is how much I love it. I am bona-fide obsessed.

Everything has been going swimmingly until about month 3, when I noticed my hatch proximity sensor stopped working. I have managed without but have intended to take it in so Ford can fix it.

Then, the week before Xmas we had a deep freeze. It was between -25°c and -37°c and basically my battery wouldn't hold a charge every day for 3 days, even after running it for 1.5 hours. I showed up at the dealership without an appointment on the Thurs before Xmas and asked them to load test the battery. They did and said it dropped to 8 volts after 3 seconds, so they immediately replaced the battery under warranty. Hurrah. ("new" battery in a new car though?!?)

Then 2 days ago I was driving home and a winter road maintenance truck basically sand / rock blasted me. It chipped and cracked my windshield so bad that it has had to be replaced today. My ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS paintwork & ceramic coating has been damaged to drivers side front & side and i'm really upset. THANK GOODNESS I have a dashcam so caught the incident. My windshield deductible is $200 which I just paid and i've lined up 2 places to quote me on the paintwork / ceramic repair.

You need volume up on the video to hear me gasp as I see the rocks coming. Then you’ll hear them pelting my BS. Then I swear etc.

If it had been my 2013 Hyundai which was dinged to death I don't think i'd have cared too much. But I am really upset. Especially as I have taken great care and pride in keeping it beautiful. Many people have stopped to talk, commenting on how gorgeous & shiny it is when I have been out & about and I really enjoy that, i've been a BS ambassador really, haha.

I don' think it's unreasonable to be upset at this damage. I have already started a claim with the Ministry of Transportation who will investigate whether there was negligence by the highway contractor.

It was a quiet road, +3°c, damp but not icy. Is the driver expected to turn off the sand/gravel sprayer? Turn it down? Reduce the spread? Surely it can’t be right that passing vehicles get sandblasted & damaged? The paint damage might seem minor to most, but I’m heartbroken TBH.

If you haven’t already, go and invest in a DashCam!!

A brief update...I did make a report to my insurance (ICBC) this morning. I have emailed them my dashcam video and all paperwork re my Highways claim & windshield replacement already done.

They told me:
-that they wouldn't pursue the highway contractor, (who are essentially employed by the provincial government).

-as it wasn't my fault, it would not affect my premium or claim history.

-as I paid a $200 deductible for my windshield I don't have a further deductible to pay. I think I need to clarify this part though, as I thought windshield and body work deductibles were separate.

I can now go to an ICBC approved body shop & have my paintwork put right and then they can contract out to the same place I had my ceramic done, for him to reapply my ceramic on my new body parts.

I don't think any of this will be a quick process but at least it will now all be put right!!

The paint on these is thin and scratches and chips really easily. Mines chipped right down to bare metal in spots on the aluminum panels. The adhesion isn’t the best.

Others have reported defective paint many times on this forum. Its not all sports but it appears that on some the underlying primer is either missing or not adhering to the panel correctly. A lot of dealers say not covered but some have reported their dealer repainted the bad panels.

I think I would just leave the paint chips alone. Highways and roads have so much debris on them it's practically unavoidable not to get some type of anomaly in the painted surfaces or windshield of your vehicle. Sometimes I think I am a rock magnet, most anytime I am in the vicinity of a semi truck I can hear something hit my windshield.
Even when riding my motorcycle I've been hit on the shins, you think you are far enough back, then wack.

There's nothing better than riding a motorcycle to teach appropriate following distance.

I honestly don’t know what paint would stand up to being blasted by grit/gravel/sand/rocks like that. But bravo to any that would!

The estimate going to ICBC from the Ford-affiliated body shop is CAD$7144! ?‍? Including $4,500 in parts & $1850 labour. But she’d missed the door damage so this will increase across the board. Wow. Now waiting to see if it will be approved ??

I have seen various Jeeps and pickups that had the bodies sprayed with bed liner type material, they actually looked good.
Line X also has a version called body armor, it has a satin finish and is available in colors.

Would definitely make for a unique BS

This happened to a 2016 Ford Fusion (ruby red) we used to have.

My wife was driving along the driveway of her workplace when a truck blasted the front of the car with salt.

The driver/operator is supposed to immediately stop spraying salt if coming into close contact with another vehicle. I think most do but clearly some of them are scumbags.

The damage didn’t look too bad to begin with. However, it started to look worse over time.

I would worry about corrosion under the material. If it's as thick as the bed liner you could have corrosion, uh, corroding under there for quite some time before you could see it.
